Description of 1974 Porsche 911 |
I purchased this car from an estate and only know what my mechanic and I have discovered in looking over the car and reading through a stack of old receipts. Please read the description below and then feel free to ask questions and I'll do the best I can. I know very little about these cars. The car was first sold in Alabama and owned by a Lt. Col. It was then relocated to California around 1978 or 1979 and I believe that is when it changed hands to thegentleman that passed away last year. The last registration was 2007 in California. He moved to New Mexico around 2008 and the car was never registered there. I believe this to be a 99.9% rust free car. The only suspect place to me is anirregularity in the paint at the top of the driver side fender at the back of the hood. I have a picture of the spot. I see no evidence of previous accident history. I see light sanding marks mostly around the rear quarter area but there is no bondo. I believe the car has been repainted in the original color one time and it appears to be original paint in the jambs. There are no dents in the body but it does have a few scratches here and there. There are a few small dents in the under body pans but there is absolutely no rust. The interior will need new carpet and the headliner is sagging. The dash is cracked as pictured. The glove box lock is broken. There is an aftermarket radio. The seats were reupholstered at one time andthey look nice. One of the rear seats was removed in favor of a largespeaker and I do not have the missing seat. When I found the car the clutch pedal went to the floor so it was transported straight to the mechanic. The first issue was the brake system and the master cylinder was replaced and the system flushed and bled. The brakes work fine as does the emergency brake. He drained the old fuel from the tank and changed the oil. The clutch fork under the car wouldnot budge and we didn'twant to try and force it. The car would not start onits own but it does run if you feed it gas. There is a knock somewhere in the motor and I don't know if it's related to the clutch problem so we have not attempted to start itagain. The stock wheels are very nice for their age. The two rear tires look like they were new just before the car was put away. The twofront tires have about half tread but have some cracking. All of the glass is in very good condition. One of the many receipts was for a "short block". I really don't know if that means they replaced the entire short block or just rebuilt the original one. I have taken a picture of the engine number and the transmission number. Unfortunately thetrans number is difficult to make out. The engine number does indicate a 1974 911 motor. Bottomline is Icannot tell you if these components are original to the car so bid accordingly. In summary: This is probably one of thecleanest bodies you will find on a 45 year old Porsche. It will need the engine removed to diagnose the noise. The interior needs a little work to be very nice. The reserve is what I think the car is worth based on what I have seenothers do. I might be low and I might be high. If it doesn't meet reserve I'll negotiate with the two highest bidders only. If someone bids it up to discover the reserve and thencancelstheir bid I can guarantee you will never bid on any of my items again. I have a clear Tennessee title in my name. A $250 deposit throughPayPal will be required within 24 hours of the auctionending. Theremainder of payment in cash or Cashiers Check that has plenty of time to clear the bank before the car goes anywhere. I will be happy to assist the transport company of your choice. I might deliver for expenses if it's a fairly short distance. |
