Description of 1970 Other Makes Can Am Race Car |
Please Before Bidding, I will only accept bids from Ebay Members with a long history with 100% user rating. All other bids will be removed. Thank You. This Can Am race car is a rare piece of history. It was built in the early 1970's to replicate the Lola/McLaren race cars of the time to race in the Can Am Series. Most of the parts on the car date from the 60s and 70s even the tires. During the 80s, the car was resurrected to race in Group C and was modified with the same specs as a Porsche 962 so that the body measures 77 inches wide, 178 inches long and 40 inches tall.It wont take much to turn this into a street legal Porsche 962 replica which is very very rare since not many have ever been produced and only 1 or 2 companies ever made them. So lets get down to the car. Whats included is a Porsche 962 Carbon Fiber tail from "From A Racing", carbon fiber front end from a Chevy Spice, Aluminum doors and side panels. The car never raced in the 80s and the owner gave up on the project. Currently the only piece missing from the car is the Porsche 962 front end which the previous owner sold it back in the 90s but the car does come with a carbon fiber front end from a Chevy Spice. The rest of the car is complete except for the Seats, Harness, and any safety equipment. I purchased the car about 20 years ago and performed a complete chassis restoration. All components of the car were removed to be either replaced or restored. All the coolant and stainless steel braided lines were replaced. The complete harness was removed and rebuilt using all new wiring. Transmission, Engine, and Brakes were all rebuilt. The only thing that wasn't done to the car was the final cosmetic work to the body which includes body work, paint and modification or replacementof the carbon fiber nose. Car runs and drivers really well Chassis was built using a square tube space frame with a aircraft grade aluminum monocoque rivetedto square tubing. Chassis was also covered in Reynolds Aircraft grade Aluminum to provide rigidity. All welds are extremelyprofessional and high quality and all aluminumis rivetedto the space frame with a few thousand rivets. Engine is a Chevy 302 3970010 with 60 psi oil pressure, 4 x 48 IDA Complete Rebuilt Italian Webers, McKay Magnesium Weber Intake Manifold, 1178 Crank, H Beam connecting Rods, 4.00 inch Diamond Pistons, Crane Gold Roller Rockers, Chevy Bow Tie Chevy heads 14011034, Phil Henny Dry Sump 2 stage Dry sump Oil System with a Patterson Enterprises 3 gallon oil tank, 1 wire GM alternator, Moroso 63500 water pump, Mallory dual point distributor 2548201 upgraded with PerTronix Electronic Ignition. Transmission is a Hewland DG300 which was completely rebuilt by Taylor Racing using original Hewland/Lola jigs and specs. Brakes are 3 piston Girling Calipers which were modified with spaces to fit over vented rotors. Brake system also includes twin Willwood brake master cylinders. One Master Cylinder for the Front and one for the rear brakes. Suspension: Front built using Upper and lower tubular control arms with coil over shocks.Rear uses a 5 link chromoly tubular independent suspension with coil over shocks. Gaugesare Auto-meter Z series, Volt, Oil Pressure, Oil Temp, Coolant Temp, Speedometer and Tachometer. Fuel system includes a Carter Fuel Pump p4070 designed for Weber IDA downdrafts running at 3 psi. Wheels include Jongbloed Magnesium JRW204 rims with original 60/70s Goodyear Blue streak tires.
