Description of 1987 Porsche 930 |
Telephone: +1 510 653 7555 | Fax: +1 510 653 9754 Showroom Location: 1145 Park Avenue | Emeryville. CA 94608 1987 Porsche 930S Cabriolet VIN: WPOEB0934HS070100 Exterior Color: Guards Red Interior Color: Black Engine: 3. 3 Litre Turbocharged Flat 6-Cylinder Transmission: 4-Speed Manual Stock: FJ1684 1987 Porsche 930S Cabriolet VIN WP0EB0934HS070100 Guards Red with Black Leather Interior The ‘flachbau’ version of the 930 (known also as the 930S and the ‘Slantnose’ in English) was a factory produced version of the 930 Turbo that evoked the revised front fenders featured on Porsche`s tremendously successful 935 racing models. The 935 featured more aerodynamic flat fenders in addition to some other outlandish aerodynamic aids. and was ludicrously fast. winning Le Mans outright in 1979 despite its underlying basis of a 911 street car. Wanting to capture this unique look for their street cars. many aftermarket tuners produced their own versions of this bodywork for standard production street 930 Turbos starting in the early 1980s. though the quality of conversions varied tremendously. with some kits even being completed in fiberglass instead of steel. Porsche offered its own version of this bodywork for street cars as early as 1981. but only through its special order sonderwunsch (‘special wish’) program. and it was not until several years later that the Slantnose became a regularly available albeit expensive option. In fact. by 1989. the Slantnose option cost about $25. 00. above and beyond the already substantial $65. 00 price tag of the standard 930. In addition to the revised front fenders. these cars also featured boxed rocker sill extensions and large vents let into the rear fenders. which admit air for the auxiliary oil cooler on the right side. The cars were and remain highly exclusive and very rare. This particular car is a genuine Slantnose (option code M505) that was built in April of 1987. It has spent almost all of its life in California. certainly from 1990 to present other than a few months in Kansas in the summer of 2007. It has service records back to 2002 showing regular maintenance. although its current owner has used it extremely sparingly. and it is currently on a Planned Non Operation registration in California. It had an oil service and the odometer repaired in October of 2014. It is also worth noting that it was stolen in November of 1990 and recovered three weeks later. according to its Carfax report. In addition to service records. the car comes with owner’s manual in correct pouch. The car is cosmetically attractive with glossy paint over an excellent body. It was repainted at some point to very good but not factory standards. and now shows some swirls. light surface scratches. and minor chips. The rubber and trim are excellent and the car sits on correct and desirable 7- and 9-inch fuchs. The glass and lights are also excellent. The convertible top and intact but shows some fading as well as some clouding to the rear window. The interior is in excellent shape overall. The leather seats show very little wear. and the original carpets are excellent. The dashboard has been retrimmed in a non-original manner. The switches. instruments. and controls are excellent and correct. other than an aftermarket stereo and Momo shift knob. The car has embroidered Lloyds over mats in addition to the factory carpets. The engine compartment is mercifully unmodified. a welcome treatment for a 930 given that so many examples were modified over the years. It is clean and attractive. with presentation consistent with an unmodified example that has been driven but not abused. The engine case is unstamped. suggesting that it is a factory replacement. The trunk is stock in appearance with full perlon carpets and date-code appropriate spare (March of 1987). The car runs and drives well. It is well-tuned and pulls when on boost as a properly running 930 should. The chassis. steering. and suspension are tight and composed. and the brakes work as they should. The gearbox shifts as it should and the clutch grabs authoritatively. The car has been used very minimally in the last seven years and should receive a light precautionary service although it operates well at this time. This is an opportunity to acquire a low-mileage. attractive. driver level factory Slantnose cabriolet. 930s of all types have appreciated rapidly in the last 12 to 18 months. with rarer variants such as the Slantnose and the Cabriolet seeing particularly strong movement. This car is both. making it a particularly difficult car to find. which will ensure its continued desirability as the Porsche market continues to appreciate. It comes with owner’s manual. service records. and Certificate of Authenticity confirming that it is a factory Slantnose.
