In the 1980's the 944 was the entry-level offering from Porsche. Porsche wanted to make a high-performance version, leading to the 944 Turbo, introduced in 1985, which boosted power from about 150 horsepower to 217 hp. Then Porsche wanted to make an even higher-performance version. So, in 1988 Porsche created the 944 Turbo S, which sat at the top of the 944 lineup, with a 247-hp turbocharged version of the 944's 2.5-liter 4-cylinder. Some period magazines claimed the 944 Turbo S was faster than the 911 Turbo, and there was no doubt that it could haul: Published acceleration tests noted a 0-to-60 time of 5.5 seconds. That was quite impressive back in 1988, when a V8 Camaro was making ONLY 170 hp. In 1989, the Turbo S was dropped, but the "regular" Turbo received the same upgrades: 247-hp engine, better brakes and suspension, and bigger wheels and tires. This beautiful Guards Red example will bring you back to a time when this was truly one of the fastest cars on the road. Even by today's standards, it's a fast, capable car. It has an aftermarket turbo bypass valve and intercooler. Both are very well done, but not factory. These changes make the engine much more lively! It is also very well appointed.
