Description of 1977 Porsche 911 |
This Carrera 3.0 Targa is finished in Silver over Black cloth Recaro seats and features a 4-speed Sportomatic transmission (the original 3-speed Sportomatic also comes with the car) that was installed by the previous owner. This example also includes hand controls that can easily removed if desired. Powertech in Rockaway, NJ has been servicing this car since they opened in 1991, and the owners of Powertech actually serviced it even prior to that! The most recent owner purchased it in 1996, though maintenance records go back to 1992. The car has a MPH speedometer/odometer installed in the car showing 20,175 miles, the original speedo/odometer shows 154,570 KM and also comes with the car. It is being sold with a clear New Jersey title. The Carrera 3.0 was a special model Porsche produced for the 1976 and 1977 model years that was only available to markets outside of the U.S. Porsche introduced the Carrera 3.0 with wide rear flares, optional whaletail, and a 3.0 liter engine. Only 3,687 Carrera 3.0’s were produced in total, 1,123 of these were Targas. A total of only 58 Sportomatic Carrera 3.0’s were produced and it is believed that of these, only 19 came as Targas. The most recent owner purchased the car in 1996, see below in the pictures a listing provided by the previous owner that described the modifications to the suspension, engine rebuild, etc. The interior features Recaro seats, a Momo steering wheel, harness bar and a fire extinguisher that is no longer charged. The selling dealer notes that the condition of the interior as very good, with only some looseness of the fabric on some of the bolsters, but no rips or tears. The sun visors are puffy. The car also currently has hand controls installed that were used by the two most recent owners. The car can be driven without using the hand controls and the controls can easily be removed if desired. From the factory, the 3.0 liter air-cooled flat six cylinder engine produced 200 HP @ 5500 rpm and 188 ft-lb of torque at 4200 rpm. The 3.0 Carrera combined traits from two Porsche icons: the 930 Turbo and 2.7 RS. The 3.0 essentially had the 911 Turbo’s engine – minus the turbo. Same aluminum crankcase, but with the lighter crank and flywheel from the previous 2.7 Carrera (Euro), which was mechanically identical to the legendary 1973 2.7 RS. The lack of a turbo meant Porsche could increase compression from 6.5:1 to 8.5:1. The 3.0 also had bigger intake ports than the Turbo. The selling dealer notes that the car pulls exceptionally well, likely due to the enhancements associated with the engine rebuild completed in the early 1990’s. This is a very nice driver that drives exceptionally well. The Sportomatic transmission shifts very smoothly and the car pulls strongly. The tires are Fuzion ZRi from 2008 and 2009, sized 205/50/16 front and 245/45/16 rear mounted on upgraded 16″ x 7″ and 8″ Fuchs respectively. The car has a MPH speedometer/odometer installed in the car showing 20,175 miles, and the original speedo/odometer shows 154,570 KM and also comes with the car. The original has vinyl numbers for mph on the face of it that can be removed if desired. The car comes with a folder full of maintenance, from Powertech and other service shops and dealers dating all the way back to 1992. Powertech completed the most recent service in September 2020 which included a brake fluid flush and replacement of the fan and A/C belts. Also included is an advertisement for the Sportomatic transmission and the Annex to the Drivers Manual for the Sportomatic. PPI's welcome. |
