Description of 1981 Porsche 928

NO RESERVE!

IMPORTANT:The odometer reads 93461 but due to a prior replacement of the instrument pod and the present failure of the odometer, the true mileage is unknown. Based upon previous title documents, seller statements, and my own records, I estimate that the actual mileage is between 135,000 and 140,000.This discrepancy resulted in a NM odometer branded title in 2013, and an odometer issue reported on the Experian AutoCheck Report.

I purchased this car about 5 years ago from a seller in New Mexico and have since driven about 13,000 miles.I have over $22,000 documented expenses including the purchase price, shipping, subsequent repairs, and improvements. It has been regularly serviced and has a current MA safety inspection sticker. My objective was to make this car a comfortable, safe and reliable daily driver. I've achieved that goal! These are some of the significant repairs documented by the previous owner: instrument cluster, transmission, oil pressure sender, coolant temperature sender, timing belt and water pump, front crankcase seal, transmission cooler hoses, and alternator. These are some of the significant repairs documented during my ownership: tires, axle boots, battery, fuel pump and filter, fuel tank, oxygen sensor, starter, front brake calipers, power steering rack and tie rods, lower ball joints, and both window motors. The Good: The engine and transmission are robust. The body is in very good condition as are the 16" phone dial rims. The heater is strong and the AC is very cold. The headlights and fog lights have been converted to LED...a huge improvement! A Kenwood KDC-152 CD/Receiver with remote control is installed; the antenna was replaced in 2019 The overall Interior is decent for this vintage: A set of Lloyd Northridge all-weather floor mats are included. The driver seat has been reupholstered to include new bolsters and it is now extremely comfortable. The rear tunnel console and rear sun visors has been reupholstered. The interior courtesy lights and some dash lights have been converted to LED...much brighter! I have 2 ignition keys and 1 rear hatch key. Various minor spare parts such as fuses, relays, switches, bulbs, and more will be included. The Not So Good: Some rubber glass seals are dried out and/or cracked. Areas around the window frames and sunroof show some exposed metal due to what was apparently a low budget respray. The original color was Palisander Metallic.

The paint is poor. Some clearcoat has yellowed and in other areas it is peeling, especially on the sunroof. There is some crazing in a few spots and quite a few chips. There is a very slow oil drip which appears to be coming from the oil pan gasket. (I've only had to add about 4 quarts of oil since purchasing the car) None of the keys work in the door locks; the lock cylinders have been removed for re-keying (the 2 door lock cylinders will be included but the passenger side cylinder may be broken) The odometer stopped working recently. The odometer gear has likely broken which is not uncommon. (I have the correct replacement gear (20 x 21) and this part will be included.) The auto speed control did not work when I acquired the vehicle; no attempt has been made to fix this. The sunroof opens OK, but it needs a little nudge with a hand while closing (DC motor weak?) The temperature slider on the HVAC head unit is broken. (adjustments can be made manually by reaching under the center console to the back of the unit) Minor electrical gremlins persist which I have not yet been unable to sort out. There is no spare tire; the OEM compact spare is missing. The original leather on the dashboard was very dry and cracked; it has been removed.(molded plastic or cloth covers are available to fit)
