Description of 1969 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow LWB

1969 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow LWB Formal Sedan

"Lord Radcliffe" is seeking a new home.

Present 12 year ownership of a two-family Rolls with meticulous maintenance records sparing no expense on this exceedingly rare and beautiful Long Wheelbase Silver Shadow. This particular Silver Shadow was earmarked by Rolls for its coming out party in 1969 at the London Auto Show, owever the original owner declined the request as he was anxious to take delivery & who can blame him. Upon his passing, t was acquired by his son & then onto our stewardship. The RR records indicate no more than 90 were handcrafted with about 10 on the road today. LRX7168 has the desired rear divider glass and is a consistent Show-Winner being displayed at Winterthur, adnor Hunt and other RROC & Concours events on a regular basis & will be much missed.Being unable to drive this magnificent & loved Rolls-Royce as in years past due to health reasons necessitate its sale.

Due to aforementioned reasons & my very limited computer experience, am having the appraiser-Classic Gray©moderate the auction & competently answer all your questions.

Exterior: 9 yr. old respray in Correct Brewster Green over absolutely straight, ccident & rust free panels showing one pencil-point size ding in the right front door; unable to show in photographs. The paint is as close to Show Quality as you can get & I'm being conservative in my assessment. It has no blemishes, s very smooth w/ a deep lustre. Upon close inspection of less than a foot you will see some slight orange peel on the vertical surfaces below the door glass & the inevitable & common cracking at the lead joints. All glass & brightwork are Very Good/Show (minor dime-sized finish loss on left rear door trim), s are the lenses & badging. COKER American Classic P215/75R15 tires have 98% tread are a less than two years old. Wheel covers are bright, / minor dents showing some pin stripping loss. The Everflex roof is original & fits nicely but has some stitching separation under rear window & a slight bulging on right rear side. This is not a rust area but is believed to be from adhesion loss. The overall roof has some tonal differences & does look like new when detailed w/ a dressing, referably w/ UV protection.

Interior: Very Good/Show, he noticeable & expected wear (cracks) on the driver's seat being the exception. They have been dyed in the past & doing so again will greatly improve the appearance. Minor wear on front passenger & none to speak of in the rear compartment. Carpets & headliner in VG condition & the door panels appear as new. Weather-stripping is VG. The Interior wood is Very Good/Show w/ delamination on right front windshield area & two vertical striations or slightly raised areas on fascia of glove box that are only noticeable at certain angles, therwise all wood solid w/ beautiful sheen, howing no finish loss. All gauges, witches VG & working including power windows, ivider Glass & F & R A/C that blows cold.A year ago a new compressor was installed with a low pressure cutoff switch and dryer. About three years ago the trunk mounted evaporator was sent off and reconditioned and the cover relined with new foam insulation. In the past, ll of the issues with the climate controls had been addressed. Any knob you turn, ou can hear the servo motors kick on and adjust their designated control. The clock & radio (which powers up) have ceased to function, evertheless, ot needed as time stands still in the luxurious cabin. And why would you want to interrupt the amazingly smooth & quiet ride?

Engine/Driveline: Believed to have apprx. 120K miles, ut since the odometer has been replaced several times due to in-operation, his is a very educated guess based on mileage when purchased & current owner's usage. Engine is clean & free of leaks (other than coolant) although it will consume about a quart of oil per 100 miles. Now for the less than desirable: During a recent drive, he water pump failed and a large loss of coolant occurred. This was not noticed before overheating the engine. The failed water pump was replaced with a rebuilt unit from Bentley-Zionsville.Upon restart, t was found the overheating had damaged the engine. The cause is at least failed head gaskets and likely warped heads. It can be driven a distance of a few miles for the purpose of checking the operation of the transmission, /C, nd rebuilt brakes, ut the vehicle will overheat & lose coolant if driven longer distances, n extreme hot weather or idling for long periods. It was driven a few miles to the shooting location & sat idling for a few minutes & then driven back w/ no problems other than the slight overheating which commenced after shutting off the engine. Transmission was flushed a couple of years ago and has always functioned well w/ smooth shifts coupled w/ the Rolls' precise steering & braking.

Undercarriage: Clean w/ normal accumulation of usage and no leaks. Brakes & suspension completely gone over in the last year w/both accumulators rebuilt by John Palma, ix calipers rebuilt by Brake & Equipment Warehouse, nbsp;replacement parts (R.R. pads, ll hoses, tc.) by Bentley-Zionsville, ll four rotors turned (including the difficult to remove rears) with bearings washed, epacked, nd new seals, new strainer screens in the reservoir, nd thoroughly flushed with RR363. Pressure system does not discharge even after the car sits idle for long periods of time. This is a major expense & no longer a concern. Good shocks, ushings, olid pans, o rust & all is in order.

Road Test/Mechanically: See the video. Rides like a Rolls should - extremely smooth & uncannily quiet w/ the overheating being the only, lbeit major issue. Consequently, ither an engine rebuild or replacement is in order.

SUMMARY

Comes w/ Operator's Manual, omplete Set of Service Manuals, a $400.00 value), ool Kit & Jack, ll badges & important service records. A "Show Winner" that will be sold significantly under Book Value. Very few have been maintained this well, articularly the attention paid to the braking & suspension systems; an item often overlooked & therefore rendering a Rolls useless if not maintained. The outstanding cosmetics & absolute solidity speak for themselves & any monies invested in engine work will certainly yield a superior, are & significant LWB for possibly less than acquiring a similar high #3, ow #2 vehicle w/ no "known" issues.

If you have a spare Rolls or other engine to utilize then this is an outstanding one-of-a-kind donor car.
