Description of 1932 Rolls-Royce Phantom PII Continental |
1932 Rolls Royce Phantom II Continental Mulliner Sports Saloon 80MS
80MS was delivered new by London's Jack Barclay to Ernest Mortimer Thomas Esq on November 24, 932. It is a remarkably preserved and completely original example wearing striking close-coupled saloon coachwork by H.J. Mulliner, ody #3989 and bearing UK registration YY7232. Thomas required that his new PII provide "chiefly fast touring" and indeed that challenge was met with this aristocratic combination of power and elegance. (Of note, rnest's wife Jill was a highly skilled racing driver, ompetitively piloting Bugattis and Bentleys, reaking the 500-mile record and becoming the first woman to lap Brooklands at an average speed of 120 MPH!). Thomas parted with the 80MS on September 30, 938 whereupon it was purchased by Angus Cuddon-Fletcher of London on March 13, 939. Fletcher, lso a driver of some renown, ccorded a fourth place position at the 1938 Whitsun Meeting in his MG Magnette behind a very experienced Prince Bira and his matchless ERA. Subsequent owners of 80MS as follows: John Lewis Esq of Southwick, eptember 18, 946, While under Borden's care (1989-2003), he engine was rebuilt by John Dennison of West Chester, A, respected marque specialist. Additional work retained by Borden included new wiring, modern turn signal system including twin filament parking lights and wheel re spoking by Dayton Wheel Company. In the summer of 1996, yle Reider of British Marque Auto of Bainbridge, A carried out a full bare-metal repaint in Claret with black fenders, eplaced any faulty roof wood, epaired and resealed the fuel tank and installed a new Everflex top. Re plating and fresh new upholstery and carpets in the correct pattern and materials rounded out the considerable restoration. The current enthusiast owner--a regarded marque enthusiast himself--installed a fresh new cylinder head sourced from Ristes, otaling $15,000, new clutch and stainless exhaust. A recent leak-down test confirms that the engine is as good as a new modern motor. What's more, 0MS has journeyed thousands of reliable miles, ll originating from Kansas: Philadelphia, he RROC Texas Tour, he RROC Chicago meet and a CCCA tour also in Kansas. Only 84 MS chassis were produced during the entire PII production run and just 35 were the highly coveted Continental version. With just 70,000 pampered miles, oday, his magnificently proportioned and lovingly maintained Rolls Royce is ready for immediate enjoyment and is an assured concours winner worldwide. |
