Description of 1970 Saab 95 |
Up for sale is my very nice 1970 Saab 95 2-door sports wagon. This is a 99% rust free car owned by a Swedish car enthusiast-collector and is one of two 1970 Saab 95's that I currently have in my collection. I have decided to sell this one to make room for a new acquisition. The 89,855 miles on the clock are original as per the previous owner. The restoration was completed in the 1990's and has had very little actual driving or wear since... mostly as an around town weekend car and occassionally driven to local car shows. During the restoration the car was resprayed the original Saab white, along with adding new black leather seating surfaces, door panels and carpet...all of which are still in great shape. I'm not sure if the headliner was also done at this time but it is like new (see photo). All glass is excellent, however there is a vertical crack in the front windshield almost dead center (see photo) but it hasn't grown or expanded in many years. The front seats are slightly loose in their tracks and will need minor adjustment. They do slide forward and back and stay in place. Original front seat belts are in the car. Everything works except for the clock and horn. An extra special feature... this classic Saab is equipped with a super rare Nardi steering wheel with Saab horn button ("Nardi" is engraved into the chrome). I've seen these Nardi Saab steering wheels occasionally for sale online for over $1,000. The car was tuned up less than 300 miles ago by my mechanic and the V4 engine with dual carbs starts up and runs as it should. The 4-speed on-the-column transmission shifts correctly and drives well. The exhaust and muffler was replaced about 1,000 miles ago. The previous owner also removed the engine and cleaned the engine bay, replacing all the engine seals before reinstalling. I have no leaks anywhere under the car worth mentioning and no oil consumption while driving. The free-wheel is currently locked out but it was never really needed once Saab switched from the old 2-strokes to the Ford Europe V4 engines. There's a switch on the transmission that could re-engage the free-wheel but I've never attempted to do so. A previous owner removed the hood release pull from inside the car and created a small release latch in the front grill (see photo- it's actually much more convenient). The spare tire is located (with cover) underneath the rear seat. The original radio was replaced with a 1990's vintage Kenwood am/fm cassette stereo and rear door panel mounted speakers. Tires look like they have 85% tread or more. Included are original Saab logo hub caps in nice shape with chrome trim rings. There is minor bubbling under the paint in a couple of small areas along the door bottom edges and on a small spot of one rear side roof panel- both areas are isolated, contained and nothing has come through the paint (photos of all three spots are shown). The undersides of both doors are perfect. There are no real scratches or dings to speak of and as evidenced in these photos, the paint shines! There was a minor dent in the passenger front fender that was repaired by the previous owner and that panel was repainted after the repair. Chrome is good with evidence of fading and aging in places. The underside of the car is completely solid and appears to have been undercoated during the restoration. The photos in this listing are current and all were taken on 8/6/2016 and 8/14/2016. All in all this is a very nice car that will get lots of attention at your next local car show or cars & coffee. I can guarantee you will never see another one coming the other way except at a Saab meet. Questions? Email me through Ebay and I will respond within 24 hours, usually sooner. Also offered for sale locally and on various classic car websites so the listing may be ended at any time. I'm located near Charlottesville, Va., 2 hours southwest of Washington D.C. and an hour west of Richmond. I would have no hesitancy driving this car hundreds of miles back home BUT, since the car is, after all, 46 years old, I would recommend a trailer or having it shipped if you live any farther than that. If you're the adventuresome type, go for it. If you ship, I'm happy to assist loading with your shipper. Local inspections by appointment. Thanks for looking. |
