Description of 1974 Saab Sonett Sonett III |
There's many more photos I can email you, try to indicate the areas you want Sorry,I went for the $25 listing with only 12 photos. Please email me if you have any questions. I'v owned this Sonett about 5.5 years and did a lot of minor repair work on the interior. The interior is very original except for the seats that are black vinyl. There is no rust on the interior floors and no and rust on under carriage. Any rust this car may have had was minor surface rust that has been treated and painted. MECHANICS Mechanically this car is in great shape and very reliable. Engine runs very good, the carburetor has hesitation when accelerating but drives out very nice. The brakes are little funky, but fine for stopping, could use adjusting. There are no water or fuel leaks but there is a slight oil pan drip. I have a new oil pan with gasket that goes with the sale of the car. Tires are old but hold air and no visible cracking or dry root. PAINT AND BODY The paint is very old and the original color was orange. The paint still shines nicely some fading in front around drivers headlight and several fiberglass stress areas (cracking and spider webbing), I posted a picture of a stress area along back edge below rear glass. The other stress areas on front hood around head light doors. There is no damage to the frame or body that I know of. ENGINE WORK When I bought the Sonett one cylinder had missing sound. I determined what bank and pulled that head and found a bad valve seat. I pulled the other bank and had the valve seat repaired and both banks cleaned and inspected.Other than the valve seat both banks were in great shape. The engine block cylinder wall had no unusual wear and pistons had no significant carbon build up. I reinstalled both heads and adjusted rocker arms to spec. These engines have solid lifters and the engine runs very smooth with no unusual lifter noise. Compression check on all four cylinders were approximate 130 pounds each. The clutch works fine and it is hydraulic driven and the 4 speed synchronies transmission shift great with no strange noises through the gears. DASH INSTRUMENTPANEL (1) SPEEDOMETER WORKS (ODOMETER DOES NOT WORK), TACH WORKS. (2) OIL AND GEN LIGHTS WORK, A BREAK LIGHT STAYS ON, WHY I DON'T KNOW. (3) FUEL GAUGE ERATIC AT TIMES AND THE TEMP GAUGE I BELIEVE WORKS BUT NOT SURE. There are many extra parts and even a donor care that will not be included with this sale but can be offered for sale reasonably to the winning bidder if interested. I can not include these parts with this sale because there are just to many parts. |
