Description of 1978 Saab 99 |
This very low mileage, rust free, 5-speed manual, Cardinal Red, 1978 Saab 99, Inter-cooled Turbo is truly one of a kind! Owned only by three owners.Previous owned was a certified Saab mechanic, who ownedand meticulously maintainedthe car for over 30-years.This car has never seen snow only driven in the summer and otherwise has been kept in storage. What truly makes this car unique is that the previous owner swapped the traditional 4-speed manual transmission and upgraded it with the 5-speed from the later 900 model, added an intercoolerfromthe 900 for the turbo, and put on new Bilstein shocks. In addition to upgrading the transmission and turbo, the interior was upgraded as well, with the seats from the 900. His decision for this was because the 900 seats were much comfier and suited for cruising. The car sits on a set of 15’ Ronal SilverVanes (stamped Saab) and fresh set of Vredestein Sprint + SL tires, which I put on the car when I purchased the vehicle. Further exterior features include mud flaps at all four wheels, a dealer-added tow hitch, a rubber hatch spoiler, and a lower front valance. It also comes with a (white) turbo decal kit, if you choose to put it on the car, as well as new front turn-signal covers. Over $5,000's of Maintenance and New Parts Added as of May 2021: - New Ansa exhaust - New Steering column - Bilstein Shocks - New Clutch - Steering alignment - New Battery - New OEM Brakes - All fluids and spark plugs replaced - New Tires - New Wipers - New front turn signal covers (need to be added) A little history I acquired the car back in September 2021 from the second owner, who mainly stored the car indoors, only taking it out occasionally in the Summer. I drove it through the fall, and had it serviced by well-known Chicago land Saab mechanics, Peterson Automotive, before I put it into storage in November. To show you how amazing this car runs for being over 40 years old, my father and I picked up the car in Vermont and drove it straight to Chicago without any issue. It drove amazingly well the entire time cruising at 80 mph. However, it is a 44 year old car and does have some minor mainly cosmetic issues. The hood and roof paint are faded a bit, its missing some of the badging (previous owner removed some for “cleaner look”), the rear panel had interior 900 tail lights added, headliner is showing its age, the interior is a bit faded, clock on dash doesn't work, and the fuel gauge sender is sticking a bit below half a tank. For those interested in buying, I got a local quote to repaint the whole car and fix the rear 900 tail lights panel for 3.2K. This car is truly a rare find given its low-mileage, running well with an upgraded transmission, turbo, and interior. |
