1964 Shelby Cobra Replica 1964 Cobra Replica 289 4 Speed FIA Replica by Unique Motorcars Proudly built here in the USA
Titled as a 1964 Ford and preferred by many, for sale is a rarely seen small block FIA Cobra
These cars run cooler, are Lighter & are much more fun to drive when compared to the more common 427 Cars! In 1960, when his racing career was cut short due to heart issues, Carroll Shelby looked for a way to continue to 'scratch the itch' he had for racing cars and decided that building a Corvette, Ferrari killing race car of his own was the way to go. Shelby managed to get Ford Motor Co. to “lend” him a small-block V8 to marry to the AC Ace sports car chassis. And so begun the birth of the legendary 'COBRA' - a name that came to him in a dream. By 1964, the Cobras were a force to be reckoned with amongst the SCCA, US Road Racing Championship and the domestic FIA events of Daytona and Sebring. And at the hands of such legendary factory drivers like Ken Miles, Dan Gurney, Phil Hill, Bob Johnson, Billy Krause and Bob Bondurant, the Cobras were regularly taking Corvette, Jaguar and Aston Martin to task.
This 1964 Shelby Cobra by Unique Motorcars was a no expense spared build for a demanding client who wanted to pay homage to the famous FIA/SCCA small block race cars.
If you simply want a car that SORT of looks like a Cobra, please don’t buy this car. If you are looking for a correct FIA Cobra, this might be the car that you are looking for.
From the Shelby team Guardsman blue paint, Monza fuel filler, quick jacks racing style mirrors and side exhaust are magnificent. I challenge anyone to show me a dash board more period correct than this one. Tach and Speedo were silk screened with correct 1964 Stewart Warner BOLD font by world renounced Bob’s Speedo Shop and correct needles were crafted for this car. Of course this car has been fitted with a correct Salisbury independent axle just like the original. This axle features inboard brakes and correct mounting points.
The workmanship in the car looks incredibly well executed. Under the hood is a Roller Rocker 302 small block V8 coupled to an aluminum radiator, aluminum Cobra valve covers, high-volume fuel pump, high-volume oil pump, oil cooler, 8-quart racing oil pan and jet coated custom stainless headers.
The engine is backed by a correct Ford top loader manual transmission driving a limited slip differential in the Jag independent rear suspension.
Adjustable coil over shocks and rack & pinion steering further aid in delivering the better than authentic handling and feel.
Additionally notable features include authentic bucket seats, Stewart Warner instruments, Moto Lita steering wheel, AC pedals, racing safety harnesses, quick release fire extinguisher, full cockpit tonneau cover, plus removable soft-top and side curtains.
Note: Soft top has yet to be taken out of the box due to the fact that this car has never seen rain. Wheels: Compo motive 15" period correct bolt on wheels
