Description of 1965 Shelby 289FIA |
This listing is for my 289FIA all aluminum Kirkham. Please read on for full details. First, if you are interested and have never heard of a Kirkham, I suggest you go to their website Kirkham Motorsports. They are the only company that makes replicas in all aluminum bodies that are as close to the originals as possible(except they don't have the flaws the original bodies had). All other replica companies make their bodies out of fiberglass and they vary in quality and correctness. -289FIA body mounted to Kirkhams 427 4" round tube chassis with billet aluminum suspension(a work of art), adjustable coil over shocks, Wilwood disc brakes, Aluminum differential, CV joint style axles, and Kirkhams special e brake system. This car is what they refer to as a "Hybrid" since it is the 289FIA body mounted to the 427FE chassis. I will go through the basics, then list the options, then go over the items I added, which include the engine, transmission, clutch, custom headers, exhaust etc.

This engine is absolutely fantastic for the street or track. It has unbelievable power, but yet is very well mannered. I installed an Edelbrock air gap intake combined with a 750cfm quick fuel double pumper carburetor. The serpentine pulley system is by Concept 1. I have never had a carbureted car perform so flawlessly before and I could not be happier with the combination of components I installed. I have listed two excerpts from Ford Racing below. Transmission: Tremec TKO600 5 Speed, Ford Racing Bellhousing, Centerforce Clutch, Fidanza Flywheel, and a Hydraulic clutch system from Modern Driveline. Exhaust: Custom Stainless Steel Headers and exhaust made by my friend Walker Morgan at MP FAB. He might literally be the best TIG welder in the SouthEast...look at the pictures. The mufflers are made by spinach and sound fantastic....low rumble at idle with an aggressive sound under acceleration, but not obnoxious in the least bit. One of the best performance sounding exhaust systems I have ever had made! Since the exhaust runs under the floor boards, i installed special DEI heat shield insulation on the floor boards, fuel lines, and brake lines. Ignition: MSD digital 6 box, MSD billet aluminum distributor, MSD coil, and Taylor Spark Plug wires. This car is currently still in filed finish and will need to either be brushed, polished, or painted. Therefore, i have no yet installed the carpet. Other notes: This car is registered as a 1965 Kirkham, so if you are out of the Country, this may help you avoid emissions regulations. "Ford Racing takes the popular 302 based stroker to the max with the 500 horsepower M-6007-Z363FT crate engine. By taking the bore out to 4.125", the displacement of the popular 347 stroker has been increased to 363 cubic inches. Combined with an improved Mahle piston, the Z363 makes 50 more horsepower and 50 lb. ft. of torque than the Z347 that it replaces. Nothing but the best parts are used inside including: forged crankshaft, forged I-beam connecting rods with floating piston pins and a high performance oiling system. Built with the BOSS 302 block and Z304D aluminum heads, Z363 fits many of the vehicles originally built with a 289 or 302 8.2" deck height block.""Ford Racing Engineers designed Z363 to work both on the street and the strip with strong torque curve that delivers over 390 lb ft from 3500 to the 6500 rpm redline. The hydraulic camshaft featured in this motor has a lift of .580"/.602" and a duration of 232°/240. Valve size (in): 2.02" intake 1.60" exhaust" Transmission: Tremec TKO 5 Speed, Ford Racing Bellhousing, Centerforce Clutch, Fidanza flywheel, and a hydraulic clutch system from Modern Driveline. |
