Description of 1958 Studebaker Golden Hawk |
1958 Studebaker Golden Hawk Description 1958 Studebaker Golden Hawk Same owner for the last decade One of 800 built for 1958 model year Supercharged 289 cid 8 Cylinder Engine Automatic Transmission From the Odell Collection Rare combination of cloth and vinyl interior Twin Traction rear differential Correct 14 inch wheels that were only offered in 1958MotoeXotica is offering this fabulous 1958 Studebaker Golden Hawk, the last loving example from a true Studebaker enthusiast collection which was purchased in 2006 (ten years ago) and was used sparingly for church outings and car shows. The beautiful Light Gold metallic paint and contrasting white top is in great condition with no major imperfections to be found. Inside, he tan cloth and vinyl seats all look presentably original with normal wear visible including the door panels and dashboard that are matched to the exterior of the car and look fantastic. It also should be noted that this car came with a roll of NOS carpet (which is impossible to find), nd has been installed to the high standards of the original. The Studebaker Golden Hawk is a two-door pillar less hardtop coupe type car produced by the Studebaker Corporation of South Bend between 1956 and 1958. The raised hood and grille were added to allow space for a 289 cid (4.7 L) V8 with the addition of a McCulloch Supercharger giving the car 275 hp. This improved the car's top speed, aking these the best-performing of the Hawks. This powerful engine in such a light car gave the Golden Hawk a phenomenal power to weight ratio (and performance) for the time. Of 1956 American production cars SPEED AGE magazine tested the Golden Hawk against the Chrysler 300 B, ord Thunderbird, nd Chevrolet Corvette finding that the Golden Hawk could out-perform the others comfortably in both 0-60 mph acceleration and quarter mile times. These well build cars also featured smooth automatic transmissions and "Twin Traction", Studebakers version of Posi-traction) rear differentials! From the factory, fiberglass overlay on the hood was added, hich covered a hole in the hood that was needed to clear the supercharger that is mounted high on the front of the engine. The tailfins, ow made of metal, ere concave and swept out from the sides of the car. The fins were outlined in chrome trim and normally were painted a contrasting color, hite on this example. For 1958, he Golden Hawk switched to 14-inch wheels instead of 15-inch wheels, aking the car ride a little lower. Other styling changes included a new round Hawk medallion mounted in the lower center of the grille, nd the available contrasting-color paint was now applied to both the roof and tailfins. One unique feature was a vacuum gauge on the instrument panel. Padded dash boards were standard. Several minor engineering changes were made for '58, ncluding revisions to the suspension and driveshaft that finally allowed designers to create a three-passenger rear seat. Earlier models had seating for only two passengers in the rear because the high driveshaft "hump"which necessitated dividing the seat; a fixed arm rest (later made removable because of customer requests) was placed between the rear passengers in earlier models. This is your chance to own 1 of only 800 1958 Golden Hawks produced with far fewer existing today, our neighbors will envy you as well as everyone that lays their eyes on this masterpiece. This is a fine example of the "First American family-size sports car", deal for any car lover or a rare addition for any collection.. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!... Current mileage on the odometer shows 60,352 it is sold as is and is mileage exempt. The car is being sold on a clean & clear title. VIN: 6104601 |
