1953 Studebaker 1 1/2-ton Tow Truck Restomod Description 1953 Studebaker 1 ½-ton Tow Truck Restomod One of a handful of examples built in 1953 Dark Purple exterior with white trim and custom cloth interior Chevrolet V-8 engine 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission Air-conditioning, power steering, tilt column and power brakes Period-correct tow boom and winch Stewart Warner gauges and Grant GT wood steering wheelLooking for a wrecker to bring home wayward members of your fleet or are you simply seeking a cool truck that looks like nothing else? MotoeXotica has the answer in this 1953 Studebaker 2R-16 1.5-ton Tow Truck Restomod. Finished in a distinctive dark purple metallic exterior with white trim pieces, the truck’s paint and trim are in overall great shape, with minor imperfections. The truck’s windows are clear and intact while its lights are clear and in one piece. There’s a large, white steel bumper with wood sections, which comes in handy when needing to give a car or truck a gentle push to start. The bodywork is straight, the engine bay is quite tidy and the “Studetower” tow area looks great with its period-correct Marquette tow boom winch. Under the hood is understood to be a Chevrolet V-8 engine, backed by a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, power steering, tilt column and power brakes. This resto truck rolls on LT235/85R16 tires at all four corners, which are mounted on Ultra, vented, chrome wheels. The tires and wheels are in good condition. Inside, the seats, carpet, roof pillars and headliner are all swathed in the royal-colored cloth. The split buckets with center armrest look great, as does the complementing carpet. The headliner is in satisfactory shape. Greeting the driver is a four-spoke Grant GT wood steering wheel that is in great condition. The instrument panel, with wood surround and Stewart Warner gauges look great while the inner door panels are in satisfactory shape. While equipped with A/C, the blower motor is inoperable along with the wipers and tachometer. Completing the interior is a Jensen AM/FM stereo with CD player and a first aid kit box. This truck definitely brings new meaning to the phrase, “We meet by accident” so if you’re interested in owning this rolling conversation piece that will turn heads, generate smiles and questions, please stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today to check it out. Competition to this truck in 1953 included Chevrolet’s Loadmaster, Dodge’s ¾-ton B-series truck and Ford’s F-350 truck.
