1959 Studebaker Silver Hawk . Because I like the original profile of the 1953 Studebaker Starlight coupe but prefer the design of the 1961 Hawk, this 1959 Silver Hawk lost its fins and got the ’61 paint scheme. Also, I wanted an engine and transmission that has readily available parts. Once you commit to your restoration, the domino effect takes over and changes are everywhere. I wanted a safe and reliable car to take places and bring me home. My wife and I have enjoyed the car, however, we have had many birthdays and we are preparing to move to senior living. I am the second owner of this1959 Studebaker Silver Hawk that I bought from the granddaughter of the original owner in California Feb 2010. I have a copy of the original build sheet. The body had no dents, accidents, nor any rust. The original grey interior and red exterior needed to be replaced. The old paint was sanded to bare metal and primed. All bright work removed along with doors, hood, deck lid, bumpers, rear window, and windshield for painting Honduras Maroon, BC/CC. The restoration included: 1988 Camaro 305 with its 700R4 transmission plus new headers, dual exhaust, and a rebuilt Holley AFB carburetor, Uni-steer 360 W Electra-Steer power steering with tilt, Vintage Air Gen IV installed behind dash, Tuner disk front brakes, Five wheels for clearance of front disk brakes, Anti- sway bar in rear (Dave Thubeault), New rear shocks, 1956 front top fender mounted turn signals, GE Nighthawk headlights, 1964 rear tail lights, 1961 Bucket seats, Head Liner with SS bows, Alternator one wire, HEI, Refurbished radiator, New rear drums and shoes, Electric fuel pump Holley, SS wheel well fender trim, Electric radiator fan, New water pump, New EZ wiring with fuse panel, Original clock converted to quartz, Six new Dolphin gauges, Radio AM/FM/cassette, Retractable front fender antenna, Owner manual, Tires have less than 2,000 miles, 2020 battery with knife blade cut-off switch, Bottom 2 inch midsection of dash expanded eight inches for center console with A/C controls, cup holders, and side floor lights, New rubber gaskets, door thresholds with Studebaker letters. My contribution was limited to the grunt work, professionals did the painting and engine installation. Shipping - I favor a car carrier. I have used and can recommend Excellent Auto Transport.
