Description of 1947 Studebaker 1/2 Ton Pickup

ORIGINAL, only slightly molested by engine disassembly. Getting hard to find them in this original condition. Info herein was sourced from SDC Turning Wheels magazine article of June 1986. Serial Number indicates this truck built in in mid 1947±.

THE STORY:y: Last license: 1968. The truck lived in Western Minnesota and South Dakota. The lack of road salt used in agriculture areas during the 1950’s forward has been a benefit to this truck. Way less rust and corrosion than most Midwest trucks. It was inside for most of the past 50± years. Proof? A lot of the original Forest Green paint is still thick on the truck. I cleaned off some white house paint that was smeared on it for some reason and that exposed the original red primer.

LOOK AT THE PICS. WOW! Check out that pickup bed!. Wish they were all like this. Small rust spots on running boards, cab floors at cowl base, some on bottom of doors. Engine is partially disassembled and not useable; only the short block remains. Transmission intact. You are best off with a slightly larger modern engine and tranny. Lots of genuine Studebaker engine parts available if you want back to original.IF YOU WANT A PIC OF A CERTAIN SPOT SEND ME A MESSAGE.

Body has bumps and dents. Nothing that requires extensive metal work with exception to the windshield header over passenger front window which has rust thru and will need some metal patch work, (area 12”± x 3”±). Missing hood ornament and seam strip on the hood. Often available on eBay.

Hubcaps on the M5 pickups were the same used on 1938-40 cars. All 4 were still in the cab and found when cleaning it out. There are 4 Vintage Arrow Signal turn and brake lights in restorable condition. Try to find 4 of these today. Unbranded heater unit under dash.

Other things: Pickup Box measures 6’-8” by 4’x1” MOL. Not an 8’ bed; Cab floor is in terrific condition for old metal. Genuine Hog Nose tie rings in bed to help secure your livestock. Home made spare tire carrier on passenger side, etc.
