Description of 1993 Subaru Sambar |
1993 Subaru Sambar 660cc 4 cylinder, 4wd, 5 speed with crawler gear, Rear diff. Lock, A/C. Factory supercharged model. The Sambar differs from other KEI trucks in that the engine is a transversely mounted 4 cylinder behind the rear tires with independent suspension at all four corners. It weighs 1800lbs and weight is perfectly distributed at all four corners. This truck has been heavily modified to make more power and be able to drive easily at highway speeds. The factory supercharger was replaced with an RHB31 turbocharger. An air to water intercooler, external blow off valve and manual boost controller was also added. Custom exhaust in all stainless steel. 2” suspension lift, 2” body lift and 6” larger tires for an overall lift of 7”. Tires are 205/75R-15 General Grabber AT 2 tires mounted on 15x6.5 Vision Cross aluminum rims with 35mm billet aluminum spacers giving the truck a 6” wider stance. There are front and rear fender flares to cover them up. The tie rods were replaced with custom ones that are much stiffer to improve the steering rigidity. Interior is mostly stock with a boost gauge integrated into the factory gauge cluster along with an aftermarket steering wheel. The shifter bushings are custom made delrin in the rear and new replacements up front. A lot of people will claim a 70mph top speed for these kind of trucks but that is downhill with a tail wind if you’re lucky. This will drive at 70mph all day and accelerate quick enough to leave traffic behind from lights. Factory horsepower rating was 55hp. It dynoed @ 44hp at the wheels stock and in its current state dynoed @ 67hp at the wheels(79hp at the engine). Maintenance wise in the last 2k miles these parts have been replaced- Timing belt, water pump, front and rear crank seal, cam seal, valve cover gasket, clutch, lightened and resurfaced flywheel, throw out bearing, pilot bearing, Spark plugs, Dist. cap & rotor, Redline synthetic transmission oil, four wheel alignment, Engine oil & filter just changed. Issues- There are some small areas where the clear coat is chipped, The passenger seat has a seam that has opened up, there is a very small oil leak between the oil pump housing and the engine block. I have the parts to repair it but requires removal of everything on the front of the engine. Overall this is a very clean and rust free(very hard to find) example of a Japanese KEI truck. 100% street legal with current Texas registration and inspection and clean title in my name. Vehicle has a non-standard vin so had to list the vin as all zeroes. |
