Description of 1966 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 long pickup bed |
1966 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 lpb (long pickup bed). I have owned 12 FJ40’s and 2 FJ45’s in the past 30 years and I am the 3rd owner of this truck. This awesomeFJ45 continues to appreciate in value due to the unique appearance, echanical condition and rarity of the FJ45 lpb trucks. They were imported to the U.S. only from ’63-’67. According to SOR and Cool Cruisers the early models of FJ40s and FJ45s were manufactured with a higher grade-quality and thicker steel than in the later years from mid '70sto early '80s. I have found that to be verytrue...and this truck proves it. These trucks are the toughest in the world and are still used in South America, ustralia, he Middle East and Africa. I’m not an off-roader, ut do appreciate the capabilities of these trucks and their one-of-a-kind rugged appearance. Therefore, ll of my FJ’s, ncluding this one and the ’80 FJ40 I also own have been ‘babied’, s IH8MUD. This truck has been garage kept and driven on-roadonly. I have invested countless hours and dollars into improving on what was already a very solid truck when I purchased it. This truck is ready to be your daily driver. Since the truck was manufactured before 1981, t does not have a 17-digit VIN. The VIN on the original plate(engine compartment-passenger side)matches the VIN on the Texas title. According to SOR documentation, his truck was built in June of 1966, s May 1966 - June 1966 VIN’s 26778 – 27127 were manufactured. I have a clear Texas title. Original color was Freeborn Red and later repainted Freeborn Red. 6 cyl. F engine replacedby Toyota with Chev. 350 V8, delbrock carb. and dual exhaust 3-speed transmission replacedby Toyota with 4-speed transmission and transfer, herefore it will blast down the interstate at 70-80 mph with ease! Those major improvements totaled $5,800. Interco Super Swamper TSL (three stage lug) 33 x 12.50 R16.5 LT tires (made in the U.S.A.) have with 80% tread life remaining. Slotted deep-dish black wheels with locking lug nuts. Solid leaf suspension (with 2" lift) and Pre-Runner shocks. Removable top, ab, nd doors. Block heater plug for that ‘just-in-case’ ventures in cold temps. Recently over $6,150 (parts & labor) was invested in the following: Replaced with new or refurbished: Sun visors Steering wheel Turn signal post control and wiring harness Instrument panel Halogen headlights Battery with all cables Door limiters Heater (newer FJ40 style) Upholstery heavy duty marine vinyl with extra cushioning seat backs and bottoms (both 60 and 40 side) Window control arms Door latches Headache rack in bed Turn signal lights (2 amber) Running lights (2 amber) Front Toyota emblem and grill Side Toyota emblems Zero-rust protective coating underneath and Raptor bed lining in cab floorboard and rear bed. This was done in Freeborn Red color. Complete clutch kit Alternator and belt ‘Kill” switch ignition system (nice security device) Temperature gauge Oil pressure gauge All lights re-wired (even the dome-light works) 4-speed Transmission shifts smoothly Transfer engages properly WARN locking front hubs function properly 5 tie-downs each side and 3 on the tailgate are solid Tailgate latches and chains function properly Has a ‘Female’ towing receiver mounted to heavy duty chassis. (I have never towed anything with it). Antennae and cable mounted ready for hook-up. This solid truck only had a small rust issue in the driver-side floor board and it was professionally replaced with a Toyota OEM steel panel. Measurements: Height – Total 77 ½ “ including ‘ears’ on headache rack 75” ground to top of cab Width – 66 ½ “ widest point at bed. Add almost 2” each tire for total under 70” Length – 105” = 16’ ft. 3” total front bumper to tailgate hinge Items that I simply ran out of time in preparing it for the new owner: Undercoating on chassis, ed and cab for appearance & protective/preservation measures. (I like the Zero-rust products). There is only minor surface rust in portions of the undercarriage. Fuel gauge intermittent Brakes adjusted Speedometer cable inop Engine compartment detailed This is a great (and rare) truck and I currently drive it 2-3 times per week……and get lots of attention. When valet parked between Maserati’s and Bentley’s in The Woodlands, his 49 year old truck steals the attention!
