Description of 1980 Toyota Other Long Bed |
Incredible running & driving 2 owner rust free 1980 Toyota Hilux SR5 regular cab long bed pickup survivor with just over 18,000 miles on rebuilt 20R engine, ebuilt stock W50 5 speed transmission & new clutch with receipts to document all the work professionally done. SR5 edition has all the options offered back in the day. Cold AC. Bucket seats. Original uncut dash. Fully instrumented gauge cluster with tachometer. Center console dash with temp & volt gauges. Everything works (except for radio which is missing plus dome light on rear view mirror which has a stuck old switch). Power brakes. Rust free Southern Arizona frame & body never wrecked. Newer wheels and tires. Original matching numbers 20R engine (2.2L) runs like a sewing machine. Starts every time with a pedal pump & click of the key. No smoke, o knocks, o leaks, o issues. Pulls smooth & hard in every gear. For those unaware the 20R block is harder, hat is, as has a higher nickel content than virtually any American muscle car ever built. It also has a vastly superior head design with much larger valves than even the legendary 22R (2.4L) engine which is why there's a legion of aftermarket builders affixing the 20R head to the 22R block to make normally aspirated engines up to 180 HP. Matching numbers 5 Speed stick W50 transmission shifts smooth and tight. No leaks. No issues. Refurbished & flow tested OEM Radiator by Performance Radiator never allows temp gauge to move past 25%. All 4 shocks are newer and do not leak. All 4 corners of the brake systems are new. E-Brake works. Alignment is straight & true. Suspension is tight. Needless to say the truck runs & drives perfect in all gears. Handles tight & smooth with no rattles, ust like you'd expect from an original low miles box frame Hilux. Even the manual steering feels light & easy. This truck is so tight and mechanically sound it would have no issues driving cross country and back again adding nothing but gasoline. The undercarriage, rame and axles are just as clean, traight, riginal & rust free as the exterior and interior. The black paint you see on the gas tank skid plate and frame is the original factory paint. You will just not find any rust on this specimen. The catalytic converter is stock OEM and always passes emissions inspection although a truck like this will easily qualify for Collector Car status through Grundy Wordwide.com which means a $5000 full coverage insurance policy is only $90 per year and emissions is waived in every State under Collector Car status. Any well cared for 35 year old truck will have some minor flaws and this one's no exception. It was professionally repainted last year with some high quality white gloss paint by 2nd owner. In the pictures and from 20 feet away it looks amazing but the body is far from perfect as these beds were thin wall steel and any cargo that slid around inexorably made tiny bumps which are evident when you look super close. On the bed only are some small areas of filler used to smooth some blemishes near the tail lights and you can see those areas on close scrutiny as they weren't sanded perfectly. Also on the right front fender corner near the hood there was a small amount of filler used but very mild and hard to detect unless you get within 2 feet. The tailgate has lots of imperfections but no rust or filler. These 1st generation Hilux did not have the extra 6th digit on the odometer which began in 1984. This truck has 152k miles on chassis but only 18k on odometer because 2nd owner found another identical gauge cluster on eBay that had just spun over to zero and he had it installed when he rebuilt the 20R from the ground up at 134k (being able to hone cylinders and use standard bore pistons & bearings) as well as had the 5 speed transmission gone through whereby some bearings & bushings were replaced and a new clutch kit with disc, ressure plate, hrow out bearing, ilot bearing and rear main seal were installed. The receipts for these operations are included with clean notarized Arizona title and they document the gauge cluster swap with mileage. I don't count myself as the 3rd owner because I've driven it for less than 50 miles and bought it only because 2nd owner was a friend who was in a temporary financial bind. All I've done was fix the only leak on the vehicle, front main crank seal, nd convert the AC system to modern 134A, nd replace rear brake shoes with hardware after turning rear drums which are in spec. This truck turns heads & gets compliments everywhere she rolls as it's truly a hard to kill classic that they just don't make like this anymore. Toyota truck collectors and aficionados know that this was the 2nd year of this 1st Generation Hilux. This truck at this quality is as rare as they ever get and what a bargain compared to the following comparisons. A very similar restored longbed 4x4 truck just sold for $14,000:http://www.ebay.com/itm/1981-Toyota-Tacoma-Hilux-/191648146768?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2c9f1ea550&item=191648146768&nma=true&si=yz18Ef7BGTl0ITyGKkl7kYjZV1U%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 One just like this truck but 4x4 with 125k miles but original paint just sold for $10k:http://www.ebay.com/itm/1983-Toyota-Other-/221843827266?forcerrptr=true&hash=item33a6ec2a42&item=221843827266&nma=true&si=yz18Ef7BGTl0ITyGKkl7kYjZV1U%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 This rig is a unique survivor - a truly great investment because it'sno accident that whenever you see footage from around this war torn globe of men with machine guns in the back of a pickup the tailgate always spells Toyota because they are the toughest, ost reliable vehicles humans have ever built.
