Description of 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser fj40

Available for auction is a rare. highly sought after and documented 1978 FJ40 Land Cruiser originally sold in Columbia South America. professionally restored and imported to the United States in 2004. This classic fj is a collectors dream with features and options only made available to South American Toyota dealers and not found on fj’s originally exported from Japan to the United States. It’s in beautiful condition inside. out and underneath with the restoration being completed over 10 years ago prior to being imported. As usual. there is a small amount of corrosion at the right rear sill which can be easily repaired by professionally removing and replacing the 12”x2. 5” steel sill section (see photos). I have left this fj in its present condition so the winning bidder can see the exceptional detail and condition it shows 10 years after restoration so the new owner can decide how. and/or if they would like to repair it. This vehicle currently does not pass California smog. so it resides in California but holds a Montana Title. An excellent example of a late 70’s fj40 that looks. runs and drives like a dream. with unique options you just don’t see in land cruisers sold in the in the US. True Land Cruiser collectors and enthusiasts may know someone lucky enough to own one. or possibly may have seen photos of fj40s like this. but most folks have not had the opportunity to actually see one in person. This land cruiser is left hand drive and has the rare original late model doors with wing windows. it also has the larger rear seats. and another thing you might notice is the dash pads normally found on the bottom of the dash don’t exist. this is all the import specs and how they were built and sent to South American dealerships from Japan. The roll bar also is bolted directly to the vehicle frame. The removable hard top is an original MPR manufactured hard top. only produced in Columbia South America and as most fj collectors will agree the MPR tops are far superior to the original Japanese fj hard tops as their made of all fiberglass construction with sliding rear windows. air vents. wide single rear swing-out door. and full reinforced integrated aluminum roof rack with MPR production plates. which is all very unique. sought after and extremely cool. This Land Cruiser is all stock with the exception of the upgraded tilt steering wheel and steering column light switch. It has the original. rebuilt 2f motor. One other difference with this ‘78 compared to FJ’s in the states is that in Columbia they came with kilometer speedometers and full piston drum brakes all the way around. I have a file with the recites from the restoration as well as many other documents and the window sticker from Columbia. These all go with the sale as well as a disc of pictures that show the work as it was being done.
