Description of 1976 Toyota Celica GT lift back |
This is a beautiful original condition 1976 Toyota Celica GT liftback. I believe I am the third owner having purchased it last year from a couple in Washington state. They told me they bought it from the original owner. The car has 67,296 original miles. The hood has been repainted in the correct paint color and matches well. Overall, this car has been garaged kept its life in the pacific northwest. Cars in that region do not rust. This car has spent a lot of time in a garage including in my ownership. There is not the usual fading of interior panels when left outside. I bought this car last year after my dad passed away. He bought this same model and color car new in 1976 and he used to pick me up after school and then I learned to drive on the car. It brought back a lot of positive memories for me of my dad when I was a youngster. I remember my dad telling me how that Celica was his favorite car. I do have to say that these cars were extremely well made. I had four brothers in their teenage years all driving my dad’s Celica and beating the “you know what” out of it. It never failed. After enjoying this car for a year and remembering some fond memories, it is now time to find a new home for him. I named the car “Hap” which was my dad’s nickname. This is an RA29 Code model for USA market GT lift back. Purchased new in Washington state according to previous owner. The car is in overall excellent condition. It has the original interior with very little wear, except for the driver’s seat. The driver’s seat does have tears through the center section of the vinyl. I have not repaired that as I wanted to keep it original. It is very rare to see an all original interior from a Toyota of this vintage. All of the other seats are perfect including the top of the rear seat which usually gets sun baked from the rear window. Most have been recovered in the wrong vinyl trim. Carpet is in excellent shape with little wear indicative of the mileage. Dash top has no cracks, and the whole dash is in excellent condition. I noticed the clock even works if you use the car regularly. Headliner is perfect. Original tool kit and jack. The lug nut tool doesn’t look like it has ever been used. I just put a new tire on the spare when I had the wheel refinished. Brakes were checked and in excellent condition. Spare set of pads and shoes included with car as well as extra wheel center cap and NOS Toyota rear window chrome surround trim! That was very hard to find and not cheap. This car spent a lot of time in the garage over the last 40 years and it shows in a positive way. I had all five steel wheels refinished in the original silver color and even had the red paint reapplied on the center caps. This was done by the local Toyota dealership body shop. They stripped the wheels, primed and painted. The owner of the dealership has the same model and year car in his showroom on display and is a big fan of these cars. The Celica has the following features: 5-Speed W-50 manual overdrive transmission 2.2L 20R overhead cam inline 4 cylinder engine (bullet proof) All matching number car MacPherson strut front suspension Power front disk brakes AM/FM stereo radio Rear window defroster Transistorized ignition Roll down windows The car starts and runs very well. Just like I remember back in high school. Very dependable. The choke even works like it did new operating the fast idle at warm up. The car shifts smoothly, although I notice a slight stiffness going into 2nd gear when cold. Clutch works perfectly. Steering is nice and tight, accelerates well, corners well, a really fun car to drive. All lights and accessories function as they should. This was a non-smoker car as the ashtray looks new inside and the lighter shows no signs of use! Still has the original white GT stripe on both sides of the car. The underneath looks very clean like it should with these pampered low miles. The engine bay is extremely original with original japanese starter, alternator, coil, electronic igntion, etc. Lots of original labels still attached. What is funny to me is when I drive it around town, I get more thumbs up and “great car” comments than my old Triumph convertible. You just don’t see these cars that much, particularly in this condition. I have a clean Florida title in my possession. Original owners manuals and vinyl holder that is usually long gone, two sets of keys including the Toyota logo keys, a repair manual (haven’t had to use as this car is super strong and well built), and an original 1976 Toyota Celica sales brochure. I have a clear Florida title inhand ready to transfer. I am close to an interstate which makes pickup by national transport companies very easy.
