REBORN. What if Toyota had built a 4-door crew cab based on the classic design lines of the original Series 45 Land Cruiser single cab pickup truck? What would it look like? Project Code Name "Sahara" is the answer to both questions! OUR INSPIRATION. HISTORY. Before being reborn as a Vintage Cruiser crew cab, Sahara began its life as an ordinary 1977 HJ45 single cab pickup truck from a Costa Rican coffee plantation. This one-of-a-kind transformation was performed and meticulously crafted by the Vintage Cruiser Co., Costa Rica's leading vintage Toyota Land Cruiser restoration specialists. Toyota manufactured several different flavors of its legendary Series 45 Land Cruiser pickup trucks for the Central and South American markets. Costa Rica received the HJ45 single cab diesel model, and Columbia received the FJ45 single cab fuel model, while Brazil got the Mercedes/Toyota diesel powered Bandeirantes. However, Toyota do Brazil Ltda. built a very limited production run of 4 door crew cab Bandeirantes that were powered by a Toyota 14B inline 4-cylinder direct injection diesel with a manual 5 speed transmission. It is this version of the Bandeirante that intrigued us and captivated our imagination. LAND CRUISER. RE-IMAGINED. We were fascinated so much so, that we originally purchased several 4 door Bandeirantes and restored them to original specifications, but the Brazilian styling, with the square plastic grills and headlights, and the clumsy design of the convoluted dash and instrument panel, left much to be desired. Even worse was the bulky and ill-conceived square truck beds, which felt like an afterthought and an insult to the legacy of the classic lines that made the Series 45 vintage Land Cruiser pickup truck such and icon of automotive history. So, we took what we learned from the previous Bandeirante restorations, and we set out to build the Series 45 vintage Land Cruiser 4 door crew cab pickup truck that Toyota should have made! INTRODUCING THE VINTAGE CRUISER LC45 CREW CAB. An exceptional, expedition-rated, fully modernized Vintage Cruiser? 4-door crew cab with all the modern amenities of a late model Toyota Land Cruiser, but with the rugged good looks of the world-renowned Series 45 vintage Toyota Land Cruiser pickup truck:
A COLLECTOR'S DREAM COME TRUE! Project Code Name "Sahara" is every vintage Toyota Land Cruiser collector's dream. Sahara fills the void left by Toyota when they ended production of the Series 45 Land Cruiser pickup truck back in 1984. For more than three decades, vintage Toyota Land Cruiser collectors and enthusiasts alike have been left wondering? What if Toyota had built a 4-door crew cab based on the classic design lines of the original Series 45 Land Cruiser single cab pickup truck? What would it look like? By venturing forward and meticulously hand-crafting Sahara, the one-of-a-kind Series 45 vintage Land Cruiser 4-door crew cab that Toyota should have made back in 1984, the Vintage Cruiser Co. has succeeded in spectacularly answering both questions in the affirmative. |
