Overview:

This 1979 FJ40 came from New Mexico and spent the last three years in Austin, TX. This is aUSA spec Land Cruiser FJ40. The truck is offered in the stock configuration and is largely unmodified and unmolestedwith the exception of Old Man Emu suspension and after-market radio. The working odometer reads 30595 which I assume is 130595.She appears to have led a charmed life thus far with previous owners making repairs as needed and taking care of her.

Original 2F engine & 4-speed manual transmission with front disc brakes and 3.70 gears makes driving her almost tame. Stock interior looks great with original seats with new vinyl, Factory front and rear mats and many new parts. She rides on new tires wrapped around factory correct wheels under an upgraded suspension. Includes the original owners manual, toolkit, jack, jack rods and inspection light.

A very "drool-worthy" FJ40 that can be driven daily and looks greatinside and out without being a total garage queen. It's not unusual to hear "NICE TRUCK!" accompanied by a thumbs up when I'm driving her around town,

Exterior:

Having lived in NM and TX, the truck has been pretty well preserved. The truck has some of the patina of an original with little scratches and some rock chips but looks like a very nice original overall. The body is in very good overall condition. I suspect some of the paint is original. The rear quarters, doors and top have beenrepainted at sometime in the past and there is a subtle variation between the tub and the top. The wheels are correct Toyota gray steelies with chrome hubcaps. There is minor rust on the underside that appears to be isolated to the inner rocker panels. Looks like it's been there many years as it's been undercoatedsince. I just installed a new Toyota front bumper along with several other improvements.

Interior:

Very nice overall. New OEM sun visors, new 4-speed shift and transfer case shiftknobs, New seat belts for jump seats.Everything works except radio which is a Toshiba mid 80's AM/FM/Cassette unit and is notconnected. The dashpad has a couple cracks and I have chosen to use a Dash Mat which is held in place with Velco. The Dash Mat provides a carpet-like surface that prevents items like your phone from flying out the window on a sharp turn. Front seats look great with all new vinyl and rear jump seats are original and very good. Dash is excellent and uncut. All floors are solid and have been rhino lined. The front and rear floor mats are the original Toyota mats. Theheadliner had been removed in favor of a simple and hassle free white painted surface. The original manual, jack, jackrods, tool kit and inspection light have managed to survive!

Mechanical:

She's a pretty original example complete with original 2F engine and4-speed transmission.Enginerecently tuned and replaced transmission fluid, engine oil, transfer case, rear differential. The emission componentsappear to all be present but the smog pump is disconnected. The exhaust system appears to be mostly original with the exception of the muffler.Suspension is the highly regarded Old Man Emu Dakar 2.5". All lights, turn signals, controls and switches work properly.

Driving Impressions:She starts right up without issue and runs down the road straight. The carburetor cooling fan works which is rare and the truck will run right up to 70 MPH ifneeded. She shifts smoothly, the clutch and brakes are great and the truck steers easily with the new P235/75R15 Guardsman LT tires.4WD works as it should. Excellent running FJ40 with very goodpower!

Summary:

This old school 4WD serves up an awesome combination of off-roading prowess. Front disc and rear drum brake combination will bring all you to a quick and uneventful stop. The color is the original Toyota Mustard (paint code 532) A somewhat rare color for 1979.
