Description of 1992 Toyota MR2 |
I am letting go due to personal reasons a modified 1992 right hand drive, Toyota MR2. This car was modified for quarter mile runs and be able to commute to work by a famous Japanese speed shop in Yokohama, Japan. A bit of history. Back in 1997, the MR2 entered a drag race at Fuji Speedway which was a sponsored event by HKS and Greddy. The MR2 took home the 1st place trophy in the under 3 liter manual transmission class (please see picture of time slip). Then in 2000, the engine was overhauled, piston rings, metal head gasket, all the metal bearings, pins, cam seals were replaced and the iron block along with the head checked for stress fractures. The MR2 was getting ready for another run in 2001. As the engine was getting broken in, the sponsors pulled out suddenly and event cancelled. With only 600 kilometers on the overhauled engine, the MR2 was put in a warehouse for safe keeping. For the last 17 years, once a month, the MR2 was started and idled for roughly 10 to 12 minutes to maintain the engine. The MR2 was pulled out in early November 2017 and maintenance performed. The engine, body and, frame is in excellent shape, engine needs breaking in. The outer body is clean as well as the inside. The front bumper has slight warping and to see it, you will have to stand at an angle. There is very small amounts of rust, some tarnishing of the aluminum pipes. No dents or rings. The MR2 has never been in an accident, not even a fender bender. The original color was obviously red but has been re-painted to Skyline metallic silver. There is no AC and no power steering. The tires will definitely need replacing as they lots of meat on them but due to age have cracks. The engine is a modified 2.1 liter 3S-GTE fully tuned to crank out over 1100 horses at 2.2 bar of boost. This MR2 has an unofficial quarter mile time of 9.7. Time and power wise, this MR2 is not too shabby even by today's standards. If you have any questions, need more detailed photos, please ask, contact me.
