Description of 1979 Toyota Other |
For sale: 1979 Toyota Hilux 4x4 pickup survivor, one owner from 1979-2018. I purchased this truck out of the estate of the 95 year old original owner along with two other vehicles. He primarily used it for fishing and for dump runs. It’s a very original truck to restore as a classic or build a crawler out of. This truck has never been wheeled, mudded, or hooned. Starts, runs, and drives out fine and can be used as is. Still wearing original wheels and original spare still under the truck. Includes original manuals and jack, handle and lug wrench. Has some of the typical Toyota rust but better than most I’ve seen. I’ll do my best to describe it below, see additional detail pics including underside at linked Photobucket album. Exterior: Original paint with great patina, faded and thinning. Pretty straight truck with a few dings as shown. Roads aren’t salted here, but these trucks are rust prone and there is some in the usual areas, behind and in front of wheels, box and a small amount in floor. The original owner was into boats, and he stuck adhesive rubber boat step material over a couple of rust spots, one on driver side and four on passenger side. Where you see a black rubber patch, there’s a rust hole. Truck is better than most I’ve seen. Underside looks good with just a small amount of rust on floors. Original wheels in good shape(no center caps) with newer tires. Windshield has a couple of small chips. Driver side mirror has been replaced. Looks good enough to draw admirers at the gas station or Starbucks. See Photobucket album below for detail pics including underside. Interior: Original in presentable condition for a driver, would need re-do for a show truck. Original seat material is torn on driver side edge as shown. Dash has cracks under mat and carpet is worn. I think everything works, all gauges, heater, wipers, radio, windows and door locks, parking brake, etc. About as stock and original as it gets. Mechanical: Starts, runs, and drives out fine. Original 20R engine sounds great with no noises, smoke or major leaks. I was told 114k original miles, and condition is consistent with that. 4x4 works great in high and low range, and even 4wd dash light comes on. Probably overdue for a full service and tune up, occasionally will idle a bit rough and can be hard to start if you flood it. Starts every time if you stay off the gas pedal. I’ve driven it around for a month putting around town, haven’t taken it much over 60mph. No overdrive, so it’s not an interstate cruiser. Good battery and tires are less than 3 years old, receipt for them is in glovebox. Truck had a shake above 45mph, so I took it into the front end shop and had tires rebalanced and a new steering stabilizer installed, and that cured it. Just a solid old truck that will get you there and back. These Toyota trucks are anvil-tough and pretty much indestructible, however old trucks do need work from time to time, so if you haven’t messed with vintage vehicles, adjust your expectations accordingly. Pricing/Misc: If you’ve been looking at these collectible trucks, you know prices are rising very rapidly. I see cherry originals over $20k and restored trucks much above that. This truck is NO RESERVE and will sell. Title is clear and in my name. Truck runs and drives fine, but flying in and driving it home isn’t advisable, as Montana is a huge and remote state with poor cell coverage and roadside assistance. Truck can stay here for 30 days after auction end, after that $100 per month storage will be due. Buyer needs to bind coverage on the truck as I will cancel my insurance upon sale. Shipping will be from Helena, MT very near Interstate highways 15 and 90. Use zip code 59601 for shipping quote.
