Description of 1990 Toyota Land Cruiser VX Limited |
Toyota's ultimate offroad vehicle! 1990 Toyota Land Cruiser 80 series (HDJ81 VX Limited from Japan). Lifted with OldManEmu on coil sprung solid axles. 3x locked with factory E-lockers and Center Diff button. Right-hand drive. 1HDT 4.2L 6cyl Turbodiesel. The diesel gets19mpg vs 12mpg gas version. A442F auto-transmission that goes over anything. Mechanically refurbished and ready for another 150k miles. VIN HDJ0004750 (EBay doesn't like foreign VINs, so the one above is my old 80) Built for the Japanese market with high end features (for 1990) like fog lamps, folding outside mirrors, headlamp washers and a center console fridge/freezer (runs on AC). I built a platform for camping that makes it easier to stow and access gear. Lots of mechanical work has been performed on this rig, so it's ready to go anywhere. 191,000km when purchased, currently ~253,800km or 157,000mi. We bought it in Feb 2016 in Edmonton and drove it back to Vail, CO in winter with no problems. It has been my wife's daily driver with the occasional long-road or camping trip. She bought a fancy new-to-us car, so this gem is being sold to offset that purchase. We have a LC Troopy which we are keeping for adventures. The upgrades and mechanical work (xcel spreadsheet available): 3" exhaust installed in Japan helps lower EGTs OME lift kit, std 2" 33" BFG TKO2 tires including spare - half their life left Interstate batteries (dual battery, 12v system, 24v start) Cleaned up wiring mess from previous owners (essential for Toyotas) BEB replaced at 196421km Replaced front axles (birfields) with RCVs Rear axle seals and bearings New Alternator Valve clearance adj with proper shims Lots of brake work (rotors, pads, master cylinder, e-brake is solid) New Lexus style lockset w/spare tire lock Transmission flush New stereo and speakers CB radio New headlamps with fog lamps New Windshield Extended brake lines New U-joints Fuel injectors rebuilt New Timing belt, water pump, thermostat, various seals (213815km) New Radiator Hoses EGT sensor installed Intercooler (water-air) installed which cools intake temps, increases boost and reduces EGTs Repaired gas gauge (sort-of: not working when bought, goes to half-way now with working warning light) A/C prepared for R134A (slight leak somewhere so not currently functional) Full cleaning of AC ductwork Custom-made cargo platform engineered with light weight aluminum extrusions and 1/4" panels Professional carpet clean on all fabric surfaces for this sale Comes with everything above plus: Snorkel Various parts and computers 2nd row seats (we remove them for cargo purposes) There is always rust on a Toyota, I'm just honest about it: The left door and door jamb underneath need love A few spots are showing around the windshield, just surface not perforated The price has been lowered to work on the stuff below: The body is in great shape, but it could use a paint job to fix rust, pitting, and scratches Very slow AC leak Cruise control doesn't work (spare computer provided) Front seats showing normal wear Window tinting is scratched in places A little off-boost white smoke at idle. No oil smell just unburnt diesel. Parts and knowledge for this foreign truck are readily available in the US, either from Toyota, specialty vendors or myself (I've learned a lot). This is the same truck that was sold in North America (FZJ80) but with a 4.2L turbodiesel. We owned the US version and it was a solid beast that took us everywhere without a hitch. This is the same thing, but with acceleration, torque, and way better gas milage. You can get this truck from US vendors that may have fewer miles or a prettier body, but they cost a lot more than I'm asking. This is a good value that leaves money left for a paint job. Contact me and schedule a test drive. Not interested in trades. |
