Description of 1987 Toyota Pickup Turbo SR5

Hi folks, you're looking at an honest to goodness factory Toyota Turbo SR5 pickup. If you're looking at this you likely know how rare and unique these are. I have owned this truck since 2010 and she has been an on and off adult daily driver the whole time and has never left me stranded or stuck, she's been a member of the family for all these years, and my goal was to keep her long enough so I could put an antique plate on her (35 years old in Kansas), but as the kids have grown and moved out, the wife and I have decided to downsize a bit so its time to move her on to her next owner, hopefully someone that will love her as much as we have. The previous owner was an adult also, he used the truck as a long term daily driver more about that below under "The back story”.

The good: The injected 22rte engine runs very smooth, starts right up with no hesitation, the 5-speed manual transmission and transaxle both shift smoothly, the transmission has a little bit of play in the shifter as to be expected in a truck of this age with this mileage(doesn't effect function at all). The truck drives very good and tracks straight, acceleration is brisk when the turbo kicks in, its no dragster, but you can definitely tell it isn't your standard 22re pickup. The bed has had a bed and tailgate protector installed most of its life, that has done a good job of saving them from damage. This truck is heavily optioned with air conditioning, power windows, power locks, rear shelf, and turbo logo seats. As you can see in the pictures the interior is in pretty good shape for a 32 year old truck, the seats don't have any tears and the carpet has always had floor mats down and is clean with only a few small honest stains. All the gearboxes are serviced with Amsoil synthetic gear lube. Fresh oil/filter change, new radiator hoses, fresh antifreeze, freshly cleaned reusable air filter, new shocks all around, new plugs and wires, new brake master cylinder and proportioning valve. Locking hubs freshly rebuilt, lubed with synthetic grease and actuate smoothly by hand.

The bad: There is rust, there I said it. Its definitely not as bad as it could be, this was originally a California truck which prolonged the cancer, but it was inevitable eventually. I tried to take good pictures to show the extent, pay particular attention to the left front (inside wheel well) and right rear lower cab corners, the bed sided forward of the wheel wells, and there's a little bubbling on the bottom right corner of the tailgate and around the left front fender. That said, the integrity of the bed sides, the doors and most of the cab are all solid and I believe most of what is there can be repaired without much difficulty if the new owner chooses to do so. The digital clock doesn't work but it comes with a replacement that just needs to be installed. The front axle shafts are good and tight but the boots are cracked from age. The new owner could either install new boots or replace the axles with the 2 new axles that will come with the truck.

The ugly: The right front fender is black primed due to being replaced by the previous owner, the antenna is loosely mounted in this fender. I tried once to tighten it up but I think it just needs to be replaced. There is hail damage I tried to reflect that in the pictures, the bulk of the damage is on the hood (easily replaced), and the roof (easily repaired). There is a small oil leak on the front of the engine, I really have a hard time calling it a leak, it's actually more of a seep, it never drips, its just enough to slowly moisten the front of the engine enough for dirt to stick to it. I haven't been able to track it down, its really more of a nuisance than anything I just keep washing it off with degreaser. The electric windows both work, but are a little slow to actuate, they could probably benefit from a regulator clean and lube. The dash is cracked, I am including a new dash cover that can be installed by the new owner. The aftermarket radio "works" but the volume control is messed up, probably needs a new radio unless you can find a replacement faceplate that has a working volume control. The previous owner installed new speakers that work, but don't look great.

The back story: The previous owner had this truck in his family for a very long time, I believe his family was the second owners. The previous owner came to own this truck through the mini truck salvage business in California in the that he and his brother owned back in the 80s. The truck came to them having been totaled by insurance with minimal damage due to hitting a cow on the right front fender. Before they sold the business, they repaired and held back a couple of trucks for themselves that was unique, this was one of those trucks. Along with the truck they salvaged as many parts as they could focusing on the parts that were unique to the turbo trucks knowing that they were only built for a couple of years. That brings us to:

The bonus: PARTS!!! LOTS OF SPARE PARTS!!! Take a look at the pictures, there's 6 boxes of parts, plus a 22rte short block, a 3rd member, and a driveshaft. In the boxes there's everything from a turbo truck CPU and injectors to a power steering system and an alternator. Lots of rare turbo system components that are absolutely impossible to find. I cannot guarantee that everything here will work 100% as much of it is salvage but as you can see many parts are new in original Toyota boxes. There's a tremendous amount of value here in parts alone.

The conclusion: It took me a couple of days to type up this description, it's hard to put into words how great this little truck has been to us, but I've done my best to try to make sure you get a good feel for her. That said, this is a 32 year old truck, it definitely isn't perfect, there is likely something minor I forgot to mention, but she's been a great truck for us and I know she'll be great for whoever buys her, I'm definitely going to be sad to see her go, but time to move on. Please feel free to ask questions, eBay limits listings to only 24 pictures, I have loads more, please don't hesitate to ask for additional pictures, I'll do my best to get you an answer promptly. Also, I'll be happy to make the truck available for inspection and test drives. The truck is located just west of Wichita, Kansas.

I forgot to mention that the suspension is bone stock, no modifications. Also, she is rolling on a set of very good condition but mismatched 235/75R15s.
