Description of 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 |
I bought this vehicle approx. 5 years ago and in the last 3 years I have performed a lot of maintenance. I replaced: Edelbrock 4 bbl carburetor, installed new head, intake man. and timing chain cover gaskets. Additionally replaced: water pump, fuel pump (manual), power steering reservoir, starter, alternator, belts, harmonic balancer, valve covers and gaskets, exhaust header gaskets fuel filter, air cleaner and cover, front markers, rear taillights, rear 'bumprettes', LandCruiser side and front grill badges, tires BF Goodrich 35x12.5x15 TA Mud, front shocks SkyJacker Hydro 2000's and steering damper, front calipers, rotors, pads and soft lines, rear brake drums, shoes, wheel cylinders master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder, front wheel bearings and Warn locking hub gaskets, serviced the axels and warn locking hubs. The torque converter was shop replaced with a new (re-manufactured) unit. The hard top is in fair condition. The windows and rubber is all in-tact. The fiberglass top cap was modified with a sunroof, but the glass was missing when I bought it, and and I never replaced it. if you can afford it, I'd suggest replacing the top cap (it's likely the original) and getting rid of the unnecessary sunroof would be a plus IMO. There is no parking brake, so it needs to be parked in-gear. I don't know many of the engine specifics other than the odometer mileage listed above. I never wired the gas gauge, temperature gauge or odometer, but I estimate that I added around 10,000 that 64,819. The previous owner said that the top half of the engine came from a Corvette, hence the steering wheel. If this is accurate, then I would guess that it is circa mid-80's. The block from what i could tell from locating and researching the serial, is of the early 70's GM ATX platform. Maybe 71' if I remember correctly. I'm guessing that the last time that it was painted was in the mid-80's to mid-90's, when the original engine rebuild and other modifications took place. It's a "15 footer" (the paint looks good from about 15' away). It has the original tub and body panels so there's rust there, as expected with a 46 year old panels. However the frame appears to be solid and "cancer free" The rear jump seats are the extra wide variety and there is a single lap belt on one of them. The front seats are poly buckets with some pretty cool old school lap belts. This Cruiser is primarily geared and built for off-road, but it's essentially street legal, with the exception of brake lights...never wired them. I never did any off-roading, and drove it on highways and in town for 3 years. It cruised and handled great. Top speed is about 70 mph, but she likes to cruise comfortably in 4th gear around 50-55 mph. I have absolutely loved and enjoyed owning and driving this thing more than my word can express, but sadly it's time for me to let her go. There's so much to list and note. Hopefully, I provided most of the important details that I would want to know as a potential buyer. I'm positive that whoever takes ownership of 'The Red Dragon' will appreciate how special she is, and enjoy her as much as I have. I am selling the vehicle As-Is, and the lucky buyer will responsible for pick-up or shipping. It has a 4 speed manual transmission. Also, the windshield wipers are not wired, and I replaced the original fuel tank with an ORM style after-market poly tank rather than metal.
