Description of 1971 Toyota Land Cruiser |
1971 FJ40 for sale. When bought ~ 7-8 years ago, it was largely a dry, rust-free vehicle believed to be bought new in Riverside, California before ending up in New Mexico. I acquired from a gentleman in Dallas, Texas who brought it down from NM. A professional body paint was done in its original Cygnus White paint code ~ 5-6 or so years ago by a local body shop in Fort Worth that, in my view, did a terrific job. The only significant rust identified was an area in the lower tub section which was replaced by a new piece welded in before painted. New rubber all around glass when replaced. There is some flaking recently noticed at doors, as well as nicks& blemishes here & there from work done over the years & being driven around town. I should’ve done a better job cleaning road grime off the frame while the body was off before touching it up with POR. Still, inspection will show that it too appears to be a largely solid & dry frame. Much done over the years that I can share with truly interested buyers.I prefer to avoid fielding questions from curious web-browsers like cylinder compression readings, air/fuel ratios, or wanting special photos/videos, etc. who are just looking and not truly interested buyers. If interested, please message me request other images, make inspection arrangements, or ask any question I can answer. Please note that I’m limited on the number of photos I can post, so if I respond to a question requesting additional images, I’ll attempt to post for all. Here are some significant high/low points: · Recently had complete engine overhaul on F engine. Engine starts & runs reliably & solid. It can easily idle at low rpm. Vacuum readings steady ~ 18 -20 in. hg. ·Recently installed Weber 38/38, along with new fuel line, new electric fuel pump & 1/4" return line. Jets dialed in nicely with use of Holley air/fuel ratio gauge also installed. ·New Toyota vacuum advance distributor installed(2022). ·Front tie rod ends & shocks replaced a few years ago, and new bushings in the front/rear leaf springs, front centering pins, new front U bolts & caster shims recently installed & alignment recently done. ·B.F. Goodrich tires in excellent condition. ·This was originally a column “3-on the tree†converted to a floor stick. Recently added an Advance Adapters Orion transfer case which really makes the shifting &transfer gears feel solid. The high/low front wheel driveshaft actuates fine. · Clutch pressure plate, clutch disc, throw-out bearing & pilot bearing were installed a few ago with very few miles on it and clutch works fine. ·Brake shoes, calipers, hydraulic lines put in a few years ago, but brakes still in need adjustment/bleeding/tweaking to make them solid & responsive. Requires a pump before holding. ·Vintage Air AC/Heat installed, but I have not yet charged and activated the AC system. Dials seem to work fine to activate settings (blower, temperature, mode) but does not have stop indices. ·Jenson Heavy Duty AM/FM/WB Radio. ·Tuffy Security keyed lockbox. · Instrument gauges seem to work fine but odometer does not work. NOTE: Mileage stated does NOT represent actual mileage.Ammeter converted to voltmeter. Unknown if speedometer is correctly calibrated. ·Wiper motor needs fixing/replacement. Rear latch handle missing. ·Shifts fine but will grind if shifter returned to 1st gear before complete stop or RPM not yet at idle. ·Shifter boots still need to be fastened to tunnel cover. ·Clean Texas title registered to owner. DISCLAIMERS: · Please know that condition sometimes look better in photos than in person. Best to view & inspect in person and judge for yourself or send someone whose opinion you trust. · Current registration, inspection and licensed in Texas. Please check before committing to buy on whether this vehicle is suitable to be driven in your state, will comply with your state’s emissions laws, if any equipment installed complies with your state’s laws and regulations, or any other due diligence inquiries. · Please do not commit to buy until after you have resolved personal concerns of your significant other, obtained spouse’s permission, secured garage space/clearance, funding, etc. · This is a 50+ year old 3-speed FJ40 that I don’t drive much past 50mph. It has road noise.Like many vintage vehicles, it has non-OEM equipment, no cruise control, airbags, headrests, safety bumpers or other safety features or creature comforts of newer vehicles. I would not plan on hopping on a flight to DFW & commencing that cross-country vacation you’ve always dreamed of on your journey back home. Just say’n.
