Description of 1990 Toyota Land Cruiser |
1990 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62 - 3 Speed Automatic with OD Good Condition 231K Miles Time has come to sell my favorite auto of all time. This crazy African Safari-ready SUV (Zombie Apocalypse Ready my nephew calls her) has changed my life with the adventures we have had together but sadly it's now time to turn it over to someone for their own set of dreams. I am retired and I just inherited another auto from my sister. plus my wife just bought a new car so I additionally have her car to deal with. Our driveway now has 5 vehicles including my motor home. so it's time to prune something and the only one that makes sense to let go is my baby here. About all I do is drive the 1. 5 miles to the local grocery store and back every couple of days anyway and did I mention I also have a scooter to use. so today my automobile use is near zero. This has been a perfect car for me. I have never abused it in any fashion and I can count on my two hands the times I have used the 4 wheel drive. About all that comes to mind is a couple of Texas ice storms (keep my tow strap to help stranded motorists). a couple of times down on my Dad's farm and once while climbing a steep mountain on a past fun. once in a lifetime trip. The oil has been changed religiously. as well as all other scheduled maintenance. I have personally rebuilt the front knuckle joints and replaced the front wheel bearings on this car but that was because the knuckle seals were leaking. not because of any mechanical issue. No other break downs have required anything be done to it. No body work since I have owned it. all original paint. This was also claimed by the previous owner but I am including the VIN so you can carfax it if you wish. Otherwise. I have been working on cars and rebuilding engines since I was a child on my father's farm. so I am capable of doing my own work but I have never done anything but replace the leaky seals on the front knuckles in 2007 and replace the master cylinder in 2011. Nothing has ever gone wrong with this automobile to require a major repair. You will find that I made a couple of alterations from a stock vehicle. First of all. I added the extra battery compartment "mod" as is illustrated on the http://forum. ih8mud. com/ forum done by many of the FJ62 enthusiasts. My intent was to sleep in the back on the last long trip I took but I found myself collecting so many souvenirs that I never ended up sleeping in the car. I also added a 110V inverter (included) and 2 aux cigarette lighter receptacles in the rear compartment that are connected to the front auxiliary battery cable. Note that since I didn't use this rear power setup but once. I am NOT including the auxiliary battery itself but everything. the bracket and wiring is all ready to go and including the breaker I wired into it to charge the auxiliary battery. The cigarette lighter outlets served for charging phones . running a fan and operating an air mattress pump. Also note that logically. none of this stuff will be powered up unless an auxiliary battery is added there on the driver's side under the hood (see photos). Another modification I have added is an aftermarket alarm system. The upside to this system is of course the convenience of push button unlock and the theft disconnect. plus the keychain remote which sounds when the car alarm goes off. The downside is that the car cannot be left idle for more than a couple of weeks without the alarm running the battery down. There is also an issue with periodically not all the doors locking with the push button keychain remote. which can be resolved with periodic lubrication of the interior door lock assembly. or more simply. just pulling up or pushing down on the button when it doesn't auto lock or open. To resolve any concerns. I am offering a free disconnect of the alarm system if the buyer doesn't desire this. Otherwise I am NOT able to make any other modifications. repairs or changes to this alarm system in any fashion to work in any way other than how I have described it here. The one exception to this is if at purchase time I receive notice. I will require an additional day to remove the current aftermarket alarm system before delivery. Everything works on the dash including the radio and the cassette player. I'll even include a RadioShack cassette adapter with a small cord that you can plug in your MP3 player to listen over the speakers. and of course the style adapters with the FM radio transmitter work as well. (Almost forgot another alteration was I replaced the two rear stock speakers with some higher wattage Jensens). The antenna goes up and down with the dash switch as expected. The dash AC puts out freezing air on a hot Texas day (it's a R134 system. converted many years ago) and runs constantly with no issue. The heater heats well. keeping you toasty and the windshield defrosted in all weather I have encountered. All the vents work when you set them to divert the air by any choice on the console. If you had me give you an "honest as I can be" run down of what needs to be done to this car I would list the rear main seal of the engine has a drip and this will leave a small oil spot from time to time. The valves could probably be adjusted to give a smoother idle. the speedometer cable could be lubricated to not make the slight whine heard while driving or the sometimes unsteady operation of the cruise control could use a cable lube as well. The tires have only a few miles on them. I replaced all the hoses and belts in 2007. The most recent repair was to replace the bushing in the gear shift leaver. which was poorly mfg by Toyota and a common problem published on 1h8mud but it is like new now. Some insight on this model I was a complete Toyota green-horn when I bought this car. Before I purchased it I took it into the Lewisville. TX Toyota dealership to have them check it out. and the service manager laughed at me when I asked about the "high mileage". He said that they see these cars come in every day with 500K miles on them and still running strong. And that's been my experience. they just don't seem to fail that often. If you are also new to thinking about buying this model of auto and you know nothing of the attributes of this venue of Land Cruiser. I highly suggest you have a read through what I have always called the "Classic Toyota Owner's Bible": http://forum. ih8mud. com/ Condition Speedometer flag on this automobile I have and will scan and attach the invoice TOCS483896 dated 05/01/95 from Schaumburg Toyoto. 875 W. Golf Rd. Schaumburg. IL 60194. phone 708-882-1800 under the name of the original owner of this vehicle. stating that the speedometer was repaired by the factory service center. The service adviser was Michael R Evans EMP:229 Mileage was 96074. I will scan this on Monday and attach it to the additional photos in the link at the bottom for this photo. I did not catch this until listing it here but I have that invoice along with all dealer. tire and other maintenance including inspections. Additionally. included with be the ORIGINAL WINDOW STICKER and a very rare 1990 SHOWROOM FLOOR BROCHURE on the Toyota Land Cruiser for that year in pristine condition which will be included. Click to see Speedometer Repair record On this car you will see a very few small rusty spots around the door bottoms. a fender well and on the back panel are the only ones I have found. You can read all about this typical condition of the FJ62 in the forum. as Toyota Land Cruisers produced during this time frame are all famous for producing some degree of rust. If someone selling one of similar vintage says "totally rust free" they are likely not being honest with you. I never have had this car in the body shop and to be honest I am a horrible body man so I never attempted getting this baby in the show-room style condition that I've seen some of these owners produce. seeing photos of their job in the 1h8mud forum. The subject spots have not grown in my near 10 years of owning the car. so I never felt a need to invest in a new body shop skill set. Additionally body-wise. there is a dimple in the hood and on the driver's left rear corner. plus a couple of dings that are all plainly visible in the photos. I made no attempt to hide anything while at the same time I did make an attempt to show what good shape the vehicle paint and interior is in. It is original paint and not some slop job that I have done to fool someone into buying it. All the very few blemishes should be seen from multiple directions on the massive amount of photos I am publishing. Also included is a set of installed spline anti-theft wheel locks and a special socket that is used to remove and replace them. I am the second owner of the car and I have all the service records for it. The VIN number: JT3FJ62G1L1121157 To close I must say I am not offering any guarantees when selling this car other than stating that today it is in exactly the condition as I have presented it here and to the best of my sound-mind's knowledge. There is no fool's gold radiator. oil or gas treatment additives. only normal oil. antifreeze and other fluids. no patches added to work "just until you get down the road" and simply no monkey business of any type going on. I will guarantee that I am not selling it due to something being wrong with it or I can promise I'm not trying to unload it for any reason based on mechanical issues. In fact. I would not be afraid to jump in this car and head to Panama tomorrow. But by the same token I cannot guarantee it will last you a lifetime. No matter how you look at this or what we all hope for. the car is 25 years old this year. You should not expect it to be show-room quality and should study these photos to make sure this is the exact right car for you. I have done everything in my power to photograph every inch of the car. If you arrive to pick it up and you have concern with something that was clearly in a photo. then I can't be at fault for that. It is a good dependable car. many people want to buy it but I felt only on eBay could I hope to simply sell it without any of the haggling that I have grown to no longer be fond of over the years. What I don't mind is allowing you to scope it out in person and drive the vehicle. I'll be happy to demo it for you any day 10AM-6PM. But with this. I'll have to say that I will need a faxed drivers license prior to meeting you. with a matching picture shown to me on arrival of course. Also I hate to mix bad words with good but I would like to tell those scammers out there who are right now sizing me up as prey that I have been selling and buying on eBay since 2001 and no matter what clever scheme you may have cooked up. telling me you want to send me am over the amount cashier's check and wanting some "change" in the form of my personal check. or you want to meet me somewhere and shake me down. you had better be a cannibal because I never have more than $5 in my pocket. Plus steal this vintage and easily identifiable car and see how far you get in it ;-) For payment I take Paypal which you can pay out if you need to or if you bring cash. I have a UV lamp that I will be running it under. So no hanky panky played here. To my potential buyers. sorry for the final words but the holiday season for some reason brings out the often undesirables as exemplified in a car sale gone bad here in this town last week. Bidders I have an over 800 point credit score and would be happy to send you my credentials if you have any concern in any area. I have a 100% rating on eBay for 14 years now. which should indicate my honesty to date but I'll be happy to work with you to give you a comfort level if you have any concerns whatsoever.
