Description of 1965 Triumph Other

This 1965 TR-4A is a unique vehicle that blends traditional Triumph styling with some enhancements for your personal driving experience. This car started life as a TR-4 project which proved to be more of a challenge then it was worth. While the car had a strong motor, he body tub had deteriorated beyond repair. I searched for a rust free body tub and was lucky enough to find one on a rust free TR-4A IRS frame. The body did not have any rusty spots other than under the battery, hich was repaired with new metal. As an added bonus it had an overdrive transmission as part of the various spare parts that came with it. Therefore a TR-4A was born.I spent months searchingfor rust free original body panels, oors, runk and hood lids. All parts are original production.

The motor, /N CT54479E, as completely re-built with new cylinders and pistons. The head was polished and the crankshaft balanced. The car has a working overdrive and a new clutch. The starter ring gear was spot welded and ground down to prevent slippage (a common problem) and the clutch operating fork was drilled and a new spring pin installed (another common fix to avoid future problems). The running gear was redone with new ball joints, ushings, ront and rear sway bars, p-rated springs, coil over shock rear suspension upgrade by RATCO. The electrical system was upgraded to an alternator for better performance. The radiator was professionally cleaned and refurbished. An up-rated cooling fan was installed and as a precaution, installed a supplemental electric cooling fan. It works, ut I have never had to use it, ven in the south Florida heat.

As you can see from the photographs, he exterior and interior of the car are probably a little different from any other TR-4A that you have seen. The front and rear bumpers have been re-chromed and are perfect. I have chosen not to install the rear over-riders, imply because I think that the car looks better that way. The front hood has the "globe emblem" but does not have, the"TRIUMPH"across the hood, gain just a personal choice. The balance of the chrome parts are in very good condition with some slight pitting of the rear lights. You will notice that the front grill on this car is painted black. I did this as an experiment, o be able to mount the Lucas driving lights without having to install a grille bar. The grille has been cut out and the lights recessed so that the forward opening hood does not hit them. I worked and I liked the black grille so I left it. If the buyer wants an original grille, will include that in the sale.

The custom interior is of my design. The seats are from a later model TR-6. A few things such as the dash top and dash pads are all the same color as the interior. This was not an option from Triumph and something that I have never seen done. The seats, oor panels and top cover have blue piping to match the car color. The car has a vintage "Triumph"AM/FM radio that works. I have speaker wire to the rear of the passenger compartment for two speakers, lthough I only have one removable speaker in place. I have installed a hidden, mplified antenna behind the rear wall, ut in all honesty it does not work very well where I live. The car did not have a body mounted antenna and I was torn as to whether or not to install one. I will include an antenna and you can make the choice. I will also include a radio blank off plate, inished to match the interior color and again you can make the choice. The top is new cloth in tan. All of the gauges are operable and if you look closely you will see two switches on the dash support bracket that are not standard. One is for the driving lights and the other is a manual override for the electric cooling fan.

If you have never driven a Triumph with overdrive, ou are missing something. It is one of the best features of this car and a rare option. You can cruise at 70 mph @ about 2,700 rpm so as not to overly stress the motor.
