Description of 1966 Triumph Dove

Out of a 42 year slumber this rare 1966 Triumph GTR4A Dove is now being offered to the highest bidder. A true "barn find" in the real sense of the words. Recently removed from a barn in southern New Hampshire after being put up on blocks sometime between 1973 and 1974. Now still untouched the car is ready to start it's second life.
ConceivedbyL.F.Dove & Co. of Wimbledon, one of the largest Triumph and Volvo dealers in England, andproduced by the coach builder Harrington, only around 50-55 Dove's were produced between 1963 and 1967 according to Dove researcher Jon Marshall. At the time Harrington's reputation had grown significantly from it'srecentsuccess of the Harrington Alpine coupe conversions based on the Sunbeam Alpines.
Of the 50 odd Dove's built only 8 documented examples were known to be based on the later TR4a IRS platform. As good fortune would have it, car number CTC/75005-L is now the 9th known Harrington Dove built with the moredesirableindependent rear suspension.
According to Dove researcher Jon Marshall there is only one known Dove with a higher VIN number so we believe that this particular car to be the second to last one built. Near the end of the production of these cars Harrington coach builders was being pressured by the Roots group to discontinue making the Dove cars and it is thought that some of the last cars were sent from the Dove dealership to Rolls Royce to have the conversions completed.Though all Dove's were fullyequippedwith overdrive transmissions, wood steering wheels, performance oval air filters and in some casesfully balanced motors by Jack Brabham Motors or Laystall Engineering in London, sales were sparseat £1250. Being nearly the same cost of a new Jaguar E-Type of the time they were too pricey for most.
GTR4a # CTC/75005-L is being offered "just as it was found" Clearly in need of full restoration, it's a very original and complete example in British Racing Green with black leather interior. The rockers, fenders and parts of the floors will require rust repair. The Harrington unique components are in excellent condition and are a testiment to the high quality conversion work was performed. The car rolls easily but the motor does not turn over by hand. No attempt has been made to start the car. We understand that it could be important to the next owner that he receive the car exactly as it was found so for that reason we have not touched the car other then rolling it by hand into our facility.
As part of the documentation the car is being sold with a British Motor Heritage Certificate as well as a clear New Hampshire Title and a bill of sale. After the sale the car can remain stored here for up to three weeks while transportation arrangement are made buy the buyer. Overseas bidders are welcome but the car must be paid for within 4 business days and picked up within 3 weeks.
