Description of 1971 Triumph TR-6 |
1971 Triumph TR6. Beautiful classic British roadster in dark blue with white stripes. This car was stored covered in a garage for the past 11 years shortly after a thorough restoration. It still looks great inside and out and runs and drives well. The car has a very low 43,000 miles, which is believed to be original. Absolutely rust free Southwest car with an excellent frame and straight body. Mechanical: -The engine is strong with good compression numbers across all cylinders -Head was milled during restoration for improved compression ratio -Stromberg carbs were recently rebuilt by local Triumph specialist -New NGK plugs -Fresh oil and filter -Hoses and belts are in good condition -New valve cover gasket -New fuel tank and hoses -New fuel sending unit -Clutch and gear box work well Body: -Excellent frame with no rust or damage -Straight body panels with only a few dings -Paint is glossy and smooth throughout but scratches are evident in certain light -Chrome is nice with good shine, no dents or rust. Some light pitting is present on the rear bumper -Rubber seals are in good condition with new side window seals and hood seal -White convertible top is in good condition and functions properly -Glass is in nice condition throughout -15 inch alloy wheels are in excellent condition with no scratches or curb rash -Tires have good tread but are older and will need replacing Interior: -Carpets are in very good condition -Seats are rare high head rest bucket seats with excellent upholstery. The headrests fold down correctly. -doors panels are in very good condition -Dash pad and vinyl are excellent -Wood dash face is beautiful with just slight flaws -Gauges are excellent and function correctly -Steering wheel, shift boot, shift knob, and e-brake boot are in very good condition Issues: There are a few fixable issues with this car. -Despite a careful valve adjustment, there is lifter noise. The Triumph specialist said it won't cause damage to the valve train. -The brakes need a quick pump of the pedal to bring up a firm feel. Once done, they stop the car properly without noise or pulling. -The tires will need to be replaced before any kind of regular driving is done. -The white stripes look good but the taping job was not the best so upon closer inspection, you can see flaws in the paint lines. Overall: This is a lovely example of a TR6, beautiful to look at and nice to drive. The custom exhaust has a great sound without being overbearing. Everyone who sees the car loves it because it has so much presence. Despite having a few needs, it's ready for a Sunday drive or a local car show. With a little more effort, it could be absolutely outstanding. |
