Description of 1972 Triumph TR-6 Overdrive |
So, here's the story...I bought this beautiful, and fully restored, 1972 TR6 from MyRod in Ft. Worth last December. I had looked for some time to find a nicely redone and exceptional car and found this one. MyRod is a collectible car seller who personally knows the owner from Arkansas who had restored the car. The car was apparently a frame off restoration and was completed about four years ago and 3100 miles ago. I was told the odometer was set to zero at completion. I would say that the last owner spared no expense in restoring this great little car. The engine was rebuilt, bored out to 2.6 Liters, added a mild cam, custom headers and a 2 1/2" exhaust system from Moss Motors, and two new Weber side draft carbs with K&N filters. The engine runs and sounds great...runs like a sewing machine. If you know Triumphs, you know this is a strong and reliable engine with lots of low end grunt and torque. The last owner spent a lot of money on engine bay improvements that can be seen in the photos. He added a spin on oil filter, oil cooler system, improved fan and a new shroud. Engine runs cool and has excellent oil pressure. I have had the car up on a lift lately and can vouch that there are many, many new parts including all new bushings, mounts, shocks and springs. Front rotors are new as are the front pads and rear brakes...she stops well. Potential buyers would be able to talk with the local mechanic to vouch for all of the work completed and the general condition of the car's mechanics, frame, underside, body and paint. Since I purchased the car, I replaced the existing steel wheels with four new Dayton 72 spoke wire wheels and new Coker 185/15 Radial Redline tires. I have also replaced the clutch slave cylinder, the lower hydraulic line and added an adjustable clutch rod. I have also replaced all of the exterior plastic lenses and one tail light housing that had some peeling chrome. I also installed a new wood Nardi steering wheel, hub and horn button ($400)...looks fantastic and the horn even works. So back to the story...right after I bought this car, a friend in South Florida offered to sell me his 1992 Acura NSX, original owner and only 22,000 miles. I have lusted after his car for years and jumped on the deal. Problem is that I can only have one fun car and that will be the NSX. I love this little Triumph but now she needs a new home. I paid $30K for the TR6 and have put another $5,000 in her in wheels, tires and miscellaneous parts and service. That's a lot of money to have in a Triumph but I felt the car was well worth it and the values on restored TR6s is going up daily. I believe this particular car to be an excellent investment. Could you find another TR6 for less money...certainly, but it could never be as wonderful as this one is. So more about this car. The interior has been beautifully replaced and updated. The carpets are new, the matching floor mats are new, the door panels and rear space panels are new, leather Miata seats have been installed (very comfortable compared to Triumph seats), new Pioneer stereo with four new speakers and a HIFONICS amplifier in the trunk, new console side panels, new storage bin armrest, seat belts and shoulder belts and new Nardi steering wheel. The interior looks great. The exterior was completely and professionally redone. This is a rust free and bondo free car. The paint work is a solid nine out of ten, the color is beautiful and she is straight, solid and really shines. The engine compartment, trunk hood, trunk lid and all jambs have been painted with the rest of the car. The top looks like new with only some minor scuffing on the plastic windows....the top frame is great and repainted with new webbing and fasteners. The trunk has been fitted with custom, wood backed and vinyl covered panels (except for the gas tank cover panel which is stock and new. All chrome looks great. All the lights work...turn signals, stop lamps, running lights and side markers. The headlights have had an HID conversion. The windshield is new and scratch free. All gaskets and weather-stripping have been replaced. New trunk lock installed ($200...seriously). Extra parts included in the sale...complete official Triumph shop manual, owner's manual, knock off hammer and wood tool for the wheels, fender cover, new rheostat for the dash panel lights, two new universal joints and new bolts and new door locks and keys. So, I do not expect to recover all of the money that I have invested in her but will sell this great little sports car at a loss to find her a good new home and to get my NSX in the garage. This is an exceptional TR6 and will give you many years of good service and FUN. SO...MAKE ME AN OFFER! I WILL CONSIDER ALL REASONABLE OFFERS.
