Description of 1978 Triumph Spitfire Convertible |
PHOTOS ARE OF ACTUAL ITEM LISTED 1978 TRIUMPH SPITFIRE with OVERDRIVE YES, YOU ARE CORRECT THIS CAR WAS UP FOR AUCTION LAST WEEK -IT MET WITH SOME DRAMA; A PARKING LOT DISASTER WITH A MINIVAN! My husband was heart-sick and cancelled the auction because of the accident. The last four photos show what minimal damage was done to the car. It does not affect the door opening or closing, in fact not that noticeable at all. Car is still driveable and safe, just had its pride hurt more than anything! ;o}My husband has decided to still sell the car but leave the repairs up to the new owner. That way you could still enjoy it now but have the repairs done over the winter season or have it all repainted or whatever... So, instead of an auction, we are listing it as a fixed price auction with the option for you to make an offer. Husband understands that the price will not be the same as the original auction but we are starting where we hoped it was going to end at a reasonable sale price. Now knowing that the price will be lower, realistic offers will be entertained for the car, and the car will be sold. So here is the description that appeared in last week's auction.....You are viewing my husband's 1978 Triumph Spitfire. He is the third owner of the car. Both the first and second owners lived on Long Island in New York. My husband purchased the car in the fall of 2016. We have put about 2000 miles on the car since he bought it. The car is truly for the English car enthusiast because of its originality and upgrades. It has been well maintained, garaged and pampered for; a true, rare time capsule that are almost impossible to find in this condition. The new owner will not be disappointed with this true survivor. The body is in bone stock original condition having never been involved in any sort of accident that we are aware of. There is no rust through on any part of the chassis or sheet metal structure. All the body panels are straight and aligned. There are blemishes in the paint from road rash, parking lot adventures and other bumps and bruises to be expected on a car that has been used and driven for 40 years. The convertible top is only two years old, was put on just before my husband purchased the car. Comes with a cockpit tonneau cover and a cover for when the top is folded down. The interior is in likewise condition for its age. The dash, gauges and switches all work as they should. Carpet and seat (center section) could use some TLC or to be redone - matching hounds-tooth cloth material (from previous owners repairs) is included with the sale. There are no rips in the upholstery or rugs, but they are old and could use a refreshing. Dash pad has a stress cracks in it (of course - they all do). The radio had been removed by the previous owner. The car runs and drives exceptionally well. The suspension and steering are tight and handle very well with no shimmy or shake. The four speed manual with overdrive engages smoothly and quietly in all gears. The electric overdrive works flawlessly. The working electric overdrive is what sets this car apart from any other on eBay - flip the switch and cruise at 60mph @under 3000rpm endlessly while enjoying the ride. The previous owners tasteful mechanical upgrades to enhance the performance and drivability of the car including; high compression pistons, re-worked head, performance cam, all new hydraulics (brakes and clutch), sport 2 inch exhaust, Weber carb, aluminum radiator with electric fans, and more. The previous owners receipts will be included. My husband had a new battery installed this spring. This car would be an excellent candidate for a future restoration - but can be enjoyed now for the fun and excitement of driving a vintage legend. My husband currently still takes the car out for a drive when he can, so the quoted mileage may change by the end of the auction. Vehicle is for sale locally, so we reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time if no longer available. No warranty is implied with this 40 year old car. Car is available for inspection with prior arrangements. My husband will try to answer any questions that he can about the car.The winning bidder must confirm winning bid with a $300 non-refundable deposit with in 3 days of auction closing. Balance is due within 10 days of auction closing unless otherwise agreed to in writing by both parties. This car is sold as is, where is. All buyers are encouraged to inspect or have the vehicle inspected prior to bidding. Buyer is responsible for shipping and all costs involved. Zero feedback bidders will be removed if I can not verify - please contact me before bidding. |
