It was first available as the Triumph 1800 Roadster (18TR) from 1946 to 1948 and then as the Triumph 2000 Roadster (TRA) from 1948 to 1949. THE TRIUMPH 1800 WAS DESIGNED IN THE CLOSING STAGES OF WORLD WAR 2 AT AROUND THE TIME THE STANDARD MOTOR COMPANY TOOK OVER TRIUMPH. STANDARD'S SIR JOHN BLACK WANTED A SPORTS CAR TO COMPETE WITH THE JAGUAR AND HARRY WESLAKE REDESIGNED THE STANDARD SIDE VALVE 4 CYLINDER ENGINE AS A 1776CC OVERHEAD VALVE UNIT. THE HAND WELDED STEEL FRAME WAS COMPLEMENTED BY AN ALUMINUM PANEL BODY OVER AN OAK FRAME. IT WAS SOMETIMES KNOWN AS A FAMILY CONVERTIBLE AND WAS THE LAST PRODUCTION VEHICLE WITH A RUMBLE OR DICKEY SEAT. THERE WERE 2401 1800'S BUILT AND ONLY AROUND 300 LEFT BRITAIN, MANY OF THEM IMPORTED INTO THE STATES BY RETURNING SERVICEMEN. SEVERAL WERE OWNED BY THE FAMOUS, INCLUDING ONE BY THE EXILED KING OF GREECE IN TEXAS AND ANOTHER BY JACK BENNY, WHICH WAS TRANSFERRED THROUGH PHIL HARRIS TO TONY BENNETT.
