Description of 1969 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon

1969 VW Double Cab.This beautiful and rare volkswagon spent its whole life in California. With a near perfect body it was treated to a complete restoration and upgrades done by one of the best Volkswagon gurus in California, andy Hutto, wner of Randys'ForeignCar. This double cab was builtexclusivelyby him with the idea of keeping it forever.Unfortunately, ue tounforeseeablecircumstances, andys' pride and joy is in need of a new home. The new owner of this vehicle willtrulyenjoy the manybenefitsof Randys' deep understanding of the Volkswagon. Every aspect of this vehicle has been treated to a top quality restoration with many upgrades that make driving this early Volkswagon more like driving a new car. As Randys' personal rid, his car is his baby, nd it has been pampered ever since the restoration. No less than three oil changes in under 1000 miles because as Randy would say," the oil gets old even if you don't drive it". This is awonderfulexample of how these cars should have been built, nbsp;if only the technology was available...... This special vehicle was built to run on regular gas and will fly down the freeway comfortably at 85 or zip around town, ll while running cool and looking great !
InteriorA full custom interior was professionally designed and installed by a well respected local company here in San Diego. As you can see in the pictures, t is flawless. The dash sports a perfect La Carrera wooden steering whee, overed for protection. The dash is completely stock with no damage or holes cut. There is a pair of VDO gauges that accurately monitor the engine oil temp and oil pressure, s well as a tachometer. The stereo is a Sony with remote that sounds great. There is ample storage in the cabin with a very cool bamboo tray under the front dash and a large storage trunk area under the back seat.
Exterior; The body was completely restored with the highest quality of workmanship and materials. All window and door rubbers are new and the best available. All doors fir perfect and all windows work as they should. The side rear cabin windows have been replaced with custom glass that looks original. All windows have perfect polished trim and both bumpers and badges are chrome. There are only two location that should be given attention. There is some pitting on two of the rear bed chrome latches and a little on the chrome cylinder tin, nd there is a blister in the paint on the inside of the passenger side rear bed gate. Both of the sites have been photographed. We wanted to disclose these things as being truly the only things wrong with this vehicle. All of these blemishes are considered minor and will be easy to remedy. If you are going to use the bed of this truck I would recommend having a rubber liner sprayed in. The vehicle has been parked inside ever since the restoration was completed.
Running Gear; The front suspension components are all new or rebuilt with updated front disk brakes added for incredible stopping ability. A new steering box was installed for safety as well as shocks and heavy duty anti sway bars, ront and rear. Randy also added larger rear brake drums for added braking power.
Drivetrain; This is where this vehicle stands alone ! As a Volkswagon engine and transmission specialist, andy knows how to build a car that not only looks great but can get down the road with normally much faster cars. But many people can build fast cars. The real trick is to build a car that checks all the boxes. This wonderful ride is fast and dependable. The engine is a 2276 cc air cooled VW motor. It was built using a new dual relief engine case. The cylinder bore is 94 millimeters and the stroke is 82 millimeters. It has an Engle 110 camshaft and flows through a pair of dual port large valve heads (40x35.5). The distributer provides spark through a Pertronix electronic ignition system. The fuel is provided by a set of dual 40 IDF Webber carburetors and with a compression ratio of 9 to 1, t runs great on regular gas. There is also a custom oil pump and underside cooler system with fan and a deep sump aluminum pan that holds a total of 9 quarts of synthetic oil. This combination of an oversized oil cooling system and the added 4 quart deep sump keeps oil temps at 180 degrees all day long. Because this engine puts out a much higher torque load than a stock 1600 motor, andy made a custom rear engine mount and crossmember with welded steel mounting brackets. The battery in the engine compartment is wired in to look real but is actually a fake battery. The real battery is correctly wired to an under the rear seat location. Randy did this an an anti theft device. The new engine has been broken in correctly and is ready for your enjoyment. The transmission is truly something special. Built on the stock 091 model bus transmission, andy completely rebuilt it to handle the new engine load. All syncros and bearings were replaced and the trans was re geared for higher speeds. But unlike so called "Freeway Flyer" transmissions, his transmission had all of its gear raised to higher ratios through a ring and pinion change and gear changes.
This VW truck does have a pick up bed but has never been used since the restoration and is in great shape. This truck has won many trophies at different Volkswagon shows in California and could win many more with it's new owner. Whether you use it as a show car, family wagon, r a surf mobile, he new owner of this rock solid driving machine will be getting a great deal on a vehicle that is seldom available at this level of quality.
