Description of 1964 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic |
Need to sell my beauty. Read below and if interested, ontact me by clicking "reply" in the upper left of this page. Read the whole description - There's a lot in this car (and ~$300 in extra parts) and I believe the price to be very fair. This is my 1964 Baja Bug with 1971 1600DP. I have done all of the work on this car. I know it inside and out and am happy to explain it / document it down to the last detail. I will also include my library of books / printed internet resources. This is a 51 year old car. It is magical, nd it is a ton of fun and it is CLEAN inside and out. It doesn't smell like gas, r cigarettes, r mold, tc. Everything inside it is new, nd clean. I drive it to and from work, n I-25 at 80mph (thanks to the tall tires). Before I cleaned it up, tested it off road. It is tough as nails and so light that it is almost impossible to get it stuck. Engine fires right up and idles well. Carb recently re-built. Electric choke on carb works great. Jetted for altitude but I do have the stock jets, hich run fine, f a little rich I also have two 34 PICT 3 bodies and lots of replacement carb parts. I will happily share my years of research into these cars, nd will remain available to the buyer by phone, hould questions arise. I can tell you what I've done, hat I would do with more $$$, here to buy everything, nd so on. MECHANICAL - Link pin front end with DISC BRAKES. Brakes work very well. All new master & slave cylinders. - Adjustable spring plates and urethane bushings (allows rear camber change with an allen wrench, dding inches of ground clearance, f desired) / Swing Axle with HD axles. - GasAdjust shocks all around. - Late model sway bar installed up front makes a world of difference in handling and control in high winds (it's a light car, o this is huge!) - 1600 DP with 34 PICT3 Carb and K&N Air Filter (Will include cleaner and oil) - SVDA Pertronix Distributor - Doghouse fan shroud has duct to move hot air from oil cooler away from the intake. - New plug wires and plugs. - New Cylinder Tin. - J-tubes - Heater boxes and required hoses included separately, ut don't recommend using them. Baja's don't have a sealed engine compartment and as a result, he heated air is less than fresh! - Thunderbird, obcat style exhaust - no loss in power over stinger and way more pleasant to drive. - Very minimal oil dripping (about the best you can ask for!) - Scat Aluminum T-Handle Shifter. New shift rod bushing - shifts flawlessly and does not pop out of any gear. - New Alternator Stand - New Fan - Spare under the hood with lug wrench, ack and fire extinguisher. - Rear engine cage / bumper included, ot currently installed. Will install if requested. Also comes with 8' whip with fox tail (Seriously) - Engine Case tapped for Oil Temp Gauge, ounted under dash. - Auxiliary halogen lights on front bumper. Have a couple of switch options for wiring into cab. Can do this if needed. - Rear Tires are BF Goodrich All Terrain Baja Champions 30 x 9.5 R15 LT passes tread test. - Front Tires are Hankook P205/75R15 97S passes tread test. - Odometer says 58,500 but I cannot say exactly how many miles the engine has on it. Previous owner says he rebuilt. I have only put about 10K on it and I changed the pistons and cylinders 5K miles ago (as a precaution because the deflectors had been left off and this can cause over heating). Compression is good and even on all cylinders. - 6 to 12V converter for the windshield wipers (new ones coming!) so that they don't wipe way too fast! - Headlights are dim on regular setting. I replaced them hoping to fix this. I think the problem is the dimmer switch or the 6V-12V conversion. I don't know. I drive with them on bright, on't get flashed for pissing people off, o it seems to be the right brightness. Comes with (2) spare lamps which work. - NEW Starter cranks HARD! Ground wire directly from negative terminal to starter. - New alternator! - New Battery! with quick disconnect. - New ignition. Old ignition also included (turned out not to be my problem!) - Electrical Fuel Pump. - INTERIOR -Forever Sharp mahogany steering wheel and adapter and working horn. - Sound deadening insulation throughout. Floors, oors, oof, tc. - New headliner with some imperfect install details. - New Carpet and floor mats - Recently shampoo'd adjustable bucket (ford?) seats are clean and comfortable. - 4 Point Seatbelts in front and lap belt in back. - Rear seat and seat back, ome made, ut good looking and functional - Leather door and rear panels. Matching leather passenger grab handle, hift boot, -brake cover. - Blue paisley assist handles and glove box. - Billet E-brake Handle - Roller Gas Pedal. - Chrome light knob (original and alternate included) - Window tinting is dark and it works. It is also beat up in several places. STEREO - Pioneer Digital Media Receiver (no CD player) SOUNDS AMAZING! - SIMPLE Bluetooth connectivity. Remembers your device, urns on whenever you get in the car, auses music whenever you turn the stereo off. Works with Pandora, ncluding the ability to skip tracks and like / dislike songs. - USB (currently iphone, ut can be changed to android), - Charging input through glove box. - Auxiliary Audio mini-jack input through glove box. - Links to iPhone (and maybe android?) for hands free bluetooth talking. Microphone on steering column. Sound quality is good. Program favorites into the receiver and make calls by pressing the face of the receiver - don't even need to touch your phone! - Complete EQ settings options for perfect tuning! SPEAKERS - (2) 6.5's pioneers in speaker panels installed in front. - (2) Sony 6x9's in boxes in the back. - (1) Kicker Subwoofer - Can be made to sound high school-obnoxious-loud, attling the bolts loose, r beautifully tuned for exactly what you want to listen to. Vocal EQ preset for NPR and Podcasts, owerful EQ preset for rock, tc. BODY Body is good, ut by no means perfect. As you can see, his thing is eye catching, ut it's not at all a show car. There are rock chips where they should be. The nose fiberglass was cracked and has been repaired, ut not painted. The roof has small scrapes and dents from a bad roof-rack install. The top seam has a couple of screw holes in it. The pans were cleaned of surface rust and coated with truck bed liner inside and out. EXTRAS (Contact me if you want to buy them separately) - Steel Skid Plate, ainted White, ever Installed. - Rear bumper Cage, hock mounted, K quality. - Pair of 1600 Head cores with rocker arms, alves & Springs. - VW Tow Bar - Extra Coil - Extra 009 Pertronix Distributor - Feeler gauge and lesson on adjusting valves if needed. - Jets and lesson on changing them if needed. - Timing light and lesson on timing if needed. - Lots of small misc. parts. MISC - Gas gauge reads from empty to half full (When completely full). A new one is $25 if you can't stand it. ;) - Disk brakes rattle sometimes, ut still work very well. - I think that's most of it. Feel free to email if you have any questions. I live near Bernalillo, M and work near I-25 and Alameda. You can come see it in either location and I'll take you for a drive. Thanks for looking! |
