Description of 1974 Volkswagen Thing |
1974 VW Thing converted to MegaSquirt FI The engine was rebuilt over the winter with following specs. All new wiring from the headlights to the taillights and everywhere inbetween 1835 thick wall Pistons 110 engle camSetrab Oil cooler CB performance lightweight lifters Balanced DPR 69mm crank with matching 8 dowel flywheel Heads were redone with new valves and springs Vintage Speed exhaust stainless The engine was converted to FI using the parts below. LS2 coils megasquirt II TheDubShop hidden crank trigger Bosch injectors CB manifolds All new stainless fuel lines, albro pump and 30r9 braided line with AN fittings. Custom one off manifold with Jenvey throttle body built by TheDubShop All wiring from TheDubShop The interior was also redone with new seats from the TheThingShop, arpet, uck boards, eat belts.... I have both bikini top and full soft with matching new windows about $3k for all that alone. The top was on only once and now sits in the basement because I like the bikini better. The other top parts are perfect as well. This is a custom VW thing in solid shape that is hard to find these days. The motor runs strong and the FI keeps it smooth unlike a carb ever can. The only thing it does not have is a IAC valve which means you need to open the throttle a little with your foot when starting but once warmed up it that runs great. It has a 110 cam so it takes a minute or so to warm up enough for a good idle. This has received awards at every show it goes from best in class to bestengineered. The engine alone has about $5k into it. Paint is in very good shape but is about 5 years old. Rims and tires are new as well as the wide 5 front disk brakes. I'm on to my next project so this needs to go fund the new one. If you ever wanted a FI VW this is a great buy. I do want to stress this is a 40 year Old car that will need attention, don't suggest buying this if are going to have to pay someone else to maintain it. The FI is a huge plus over a carb but still needs the owner to be able to make future changes based on where you live. It's a great car with many extras that are well beyond the reserve price. |
