Description of 1972 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Camper |
1972 Volkswagen Camper Van Mustang V6 Motor SWAP - Factory VW 4 speed manual transmission 1972 Volkswagen Van / Bus / Camper Vango - Mustang V6 Engine / Motor Conversion - ( this was done in the 80's in Californi, ot by ME ) Company's Name is Hadley Engineering - There is an owners manua, rochure with detailed instructions about the conversion. Custom front " Spare " tire holder - that houses the Radiator / Fan unit. It is matched to the factory 4 speed BUS transmission. Odometer reads 51000 ( unknown actual miles) I think i have identified the motor as a 2.8 V6 Mustang Motor from 1979. ( this is a google guess, ot an actual FACT ) History: This Van popped up locally at the Co-Part auction last week. I rolled the dice and bid and ended up winning the auction. I did NOT get a chance to look at the Van in person - before bidding - it was a donated to Charity. I went up and paid for the van - had it towed to my house the next day. In the meantim, found the registered previous owner and spoke with her on the phone. She bought the van nearly 20 years ago in California, here she lived at the time. She purchased it already converted - and drove it daily up until 4 years ago. 11 years ago she moved from California to Nebraska. The Van had been sitting outside for 4 years - parked - just due to her getting a new car and she donated it to a local charity who in turn threw it at the Co Part auction. Where I bought it. The title says 1972 Kombi Camper Mobile - with previous title CA - Once I got it: I was excited and curious about what I had purchased. Quickly checked oil / coolant - grabbed a battery - tossed in some gas - had to quickly replace a fuel line that was leaking ( gas tank was drained 4 years ago when she " parked " it ) , nce again put gas back in it. Cranked it over and it started right up to my surprise. Sounds awesome - has two exhausts one sticking out each side... Emergency brake does NOT work - i quickly learned even though it acts like it does.. I tossed the family in the car ( gently of course ) and we cruising around our neighborhood. It runs great - Has a Tach on the dash that works, peedometer work, as gauge works - there are two other gauges, MPS and oil pressure - they both have readings when Bus is running. The Water Temp gauges DOES NOT work - so i have only driven around my neighborhood and to the gas station to fill it up and wash it up. Body: Its from California - its pretty SOLID - but it does have some misc repai, mall spots of rust here and there but it is not RUSTY. Floor and rockers are awesome - looks like rockers have been repaired before. Front fender flare area have some spots of rust bubbles but not HOLES - looks like on the front of the BUS on passenger side - bondo crack or just a crack of the paint ? The paint is faded but ok - previous owner also painted the INSIDE of the Bus White and it is flaking in places, ike NOT sticking to the interior metal of the van. The back engine area has been modified for this V6 engine - the deck lid has " louvers " in it to help it get some more air I suppose. Custom top engine cover is there to cover up top side of the engine - there is PLENTY of room to reach around and work on the engine in the bay. The rear deck lid does NOT have a latch to keep it shut. All the glass is good - there is some funky window tint on the rear side windows. The sliding door needs a little help opening - but it slides nice and shuts tight. There is a class 1 big trailer hitch receiver under the rear bumper of the Bus. Keys: There is a key for an aftermarket ignition in front of the original ignition. There is a push button starter button to start the engine, r you can turn the aftermarket key. There are NO other keys - no keys for the original ignition and none for the door, love box, tc.. Camper stuff: It is missing the rear luggage tray on the roof ( obviously missing in the pictures ) - the camper top pops up and the canvas is Trashed and ripped - Previous owner told me she NEVER used it ( the camper cot ) the Cot itself the material is also torn in half. The tie downs that hold the pop up camper are broken and or missing. These parts are readily available here on Ebay or other VW suppliers. Behind the passenger seat - looks like there used to be a fridge - as the carpe, loor has indentation from something sitting there - but it is NOT there - not included. The jump seat behind the driver seat is there - and inside of it is some sort of AC blower contraption - that does not have any line, lectrical going to it - so not sure what it there for. The rear seat and front seats have been recovered in RED fabric - the front seats are torn up along seams - the rear seat and the rear pillow that sits on top of the engine is in decent shape. The original black door panels are in decent shape but have 4" speaker holes cut in them and NO Speakers are there. The side windows are crank opening Camper windows - the front vent windows are there but the passenger side will not open. The windows roll up and down as they should. The Cabinets have a 1967 Tag on the lower corner of them. The are in good shape. The closet door is MISSING, he lower storage area under the rear seat opens and shuts, he rear cabinet all the way in the back also opens and shuts. The wood looks good and in decent shape. Misc: Tires are newer - not dry rotted and plenty of tread - the rims are a strange chrome looking rim with a matching spare in the back next to engine compartment. I have not removed the spare to see the condition of the tire. The brakes work well ( except emergency brake ) The blinker switch on the column is broken - it will activate them - but it sloppy. Radio does not WORK - it powers up and but no sound comes out of the radio ( i hooked up a speaker to test i, peaker NOT included ) Headlights work - haven't had anyone behind me to check the brake lights in the rear. Stuff Missing or NOT working: ( stuff that I have noticed ) Chrome headlight trim rings are not installed but located in the closet. Passenger door mirror is missing. Driver door mirror frame is there but no GLASS / MIRROR NO fridge. Radio does NOT work. There are no speakers Missing roof luggage rack on the rear of the roof. Missing the rear upper thin wood that covers the headliner? Not sure if headliner is the proper term but it is a very thin wood - it was there but broken and sagging so I removed it. Closet door is missing. Inner sun visor clips are missing. Sliding doo, oor panel missing. Water Temp gauge in dash does NOT work - Summary: 1972 Vw Camper Van - needs work - runs and drives. I personally would NOT drive this any considerable distanc, ince the water temp gauge does NOT work - I have only driven it around my neighborhood since owning it. Its pretty solid, as some body bumps and bruises but not a RUST bucket. Camper Top works - but the material canvas needs replaced - the COT is there and folds out as well but the material is torn. Tires are goo, ewer battery last week installed. SOLD AS IS WHERE IS : I encourage serious buyers to come to Nebraska and look it over in PERSON. SOLD AS IS: It is a 40+ year old van with little history - a very interesting motor swap - that starts right up and drives - I have had it up to 60 MPH - I would TRAILER the van - or have it shipped at your EXPENSE. Bus is sitting in my driveway in Lincoln Nebraska 68516. Title in hand ready for new owner to fix it up and enjoy it. 402-671-0355 TEXT is best. |
