Description of 1972 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon |
This is a beautiful specimen that will bring miles of enjoyment. Originally a California car restored 6 years ago and continually improved following the restoration. Since then Pumper has driven over 40 countries and over 80,000 miles, he has beenour home for 5 years traveling throughout the US and Canada, exico, entral America, outh America and Europe. You may be familiar with her travels through www.rweethereyet.com or on Facebook 'Living The Dream', ith links from:The Samba, o Westy, W Camper Family, nd other popular VW forums. Pumper has been to countless VW and car shows around the world and won many prizes, nd been featured in enthusiast magazines and newspaper articles along the way in several languages. She has even chauffeured for a few weddings and graduations. It's a sad day for us... Time to let our baby go, e can no longer travel this way, ealth reasons are forcing us off the road. Pumper has been maintained meticulously, echanically and esthetically. She turns heads everywhere she goes...10 out of 10 on thecurbside wow factor. She runs great and I never think twice about a long journey. Drove from Ottawa Ontario to St Petersburg FloridaOctober 2015, o problem. The oil and filteris changed every 2500 miles at which time I always perform a tune-up, hecking all ignition components, he timing, nd the valve clearances. She is my hobby on the road. Yes we have had a few mechanical challenges during our travels but always repairing to a high standard. She has about 20,000 miles since all new valves and valve seats, ecently replaced the alternator, attery less than 2 years old, ew brake pads and shoes around 2 years ago, ew cam shaft and valves and valve seats in 2013, ew paint December 2013 and replaced window seals while the windows were out for the re-paint. I under-sprayed rust preventative back in October 2015. All chrome including the eyelids is in very good condition. The original engine was 1700cc but theengine block was replaced with onefrom a 1978 so she has a little more power with 2000cc but not the EFI. She has twin 34mm Weber carburetors. On the highway she gets up to 23 miles to the gallon driving around 60-65 miles per hour, ess in the mountains. The gas supply has been rerouted locating the fuel pump ahead of the engine compartment and adding 2 in-line fuel filters. With all this outside the engine compartment the chance of an engine fire is drastically reduced. Also included a cut-off valve to disable the vehicle if you leave it anywhere. Iinstalled an auxiliary battery that feeds internal 12v lighting and a 120v inverter to charge computers, hones, ablets, and cameras or to operate small 120v appliances. Itis connected to the alternator and a solar panelbut is isolated fromtheprimary battery when parkedto preserve the starter battery. This allows for worry free power when camping.Would easily run a small refrigerator if the original ice box isn't enough. I have lots of spares, s one would with the type of travelling we have been doing. Spare ignition partsi.e. points, ondensers, spark plugs, lug HT leads, oil, istributor, istributor cap, otor. Alternator belt, egulator, ulbs, uses, uel pump, uel filters. Recently noticed very light oil residue on the inner CV joints so I have spare CV's waiting to be installed. Not critical and not a big job. There is also a trace of transmission oil on the main input shaft from the gear shift. I've had this since the tranny was last out in 2011 but never had to add tranny oil, o it isn't leaking, have a spare oil seal for whenever it makes sense to replace it. Just isn't worth removing the tranny when she isn't losing oil. Tranny oil was changed summer 2015. I was planning to replace the driver side window scrapers this spring. They're not too bad but new ones wouldn't hurt. Tires are good. Don't think you would have any trouble getting a safety performed. I have the originalcots for boththe pop-top and the cot that locates above the driver and passenger seats. The pop top canvas and bug nettingis in good condition, t has a small repair patch that is in a very inconspicuous place. There is a screw repair to the fiber glass roof attached to the canvas mountingsthat I can provide additional pictures of. It is still 100% functional and does not detract from the appearance of the bus. Nobody ever notices the repair. Also has the screen that fits the rear hatch and2 aftermarket bug screens that fit the front driver and passengerwindows. The bench opens into a bed easily and my parts and tools are stored under the bench. The ice box is efficient and the sink and fresh water pump are still functional although with bottled water today It is 100% functional and not we don't use the sink or faucet. Located in Largo Florida, he is Ontario registered. We were staying in Largo until we had to return to Ontario in December because of health. I was planning to fly down in April to drive her home until we made the decision to sell her. I can fly to Florida to complete the sell and would consider driving her to your location depending upon where and timing relative to the weather. Please talk to me about shipping. Would require a $500 deposit through PayPal and the balanceby wire transfer or certified/cashiers check. I can provide references from the VW community if you need to validate any of the information, nd you can check out the blog. I have a reserve on Pumper because she is worth every penny, nd I'm not willing to give her away, he has been a member of the family for the last 6 years. Please ask away, nything you want to know. |
