This is a one of a kind 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible - Karmann Edition. Sunny Arizona vehicle. This vehicle has been converted to a 100% all electric car. The vehicle is equipped with 10 deep cycle marine batteries. Four batteries are located under the front hood. two batteries under the back seat. and four in the rear trunk. The batteries are Deka Dominator GEL batteries model 8G31 - 98 amp hour rating. The batteries are about 15 months old. The car has a General Electric DC motor model 5BT1346B50 which has 20. 9HP. 120V. The DC motor is directly connected to the transmission. Under the front hood is the onboard charging system which is a Zivan model NG3. Vehicle charging port is located where the gas cap once was. No special outlet is needed for charging. The car charges using a regular 110-120v outlet. Charging time varies based on how discharged the batteries are. At full discharge the car will charge in about eight hours. The range can vary greatly. As little as 20 miles per charge and as much as 40 miles per charge. Range depends on starting/stopping. hills. charge in the batteries. age of the batteries. speed. traffic. etc. This car was not built for range/distance it was a convenient around town car.
