Keeping it real. Let's make a deal...Call me Doug 702-353-7500 When I see a Bug for sale, t brings back a lifetime of memories for me. My parents had them, remember riding in the luggage area behind the rear seat when I was really young (fifty years ago) and I can't help but think I want to own that one. This is my third 1957 Beetle and really, think it is my favorite. The last 57 I had was restored to showroom originality and was worth a lot of money as most Oval Windows are. I really didn't drive it much because it was like a museum piece and so original. I always admired the "Patina Bugs" so much more. They were unique and like "Nature's Art" at the shows, uilt to be driven and from simple to extravagant in how they were restored. Most important, real "Patina Bug" is like a Rembrandt from nature. Finding one with real patina matched all the way around the body as opposed to just one side or the other, hen finding a real patina that has all of it's original panels, enders, ood and trunk, nd finding it with no body cancer or through rust, ow that is like finding a true rare piece of art. As you review this presentation you will see why I fell in love with this great Beetle. You just cannot reproduce this originality. Would l love to keep it? Oh hell yes, ut it's more important for me to sell these dreams to those who have sought them out as much as I have. Truly my passion more so than the car itself. If you are looking for this kind of art. This should hit your fancy like it did mine. The beauty of this "Patina Bug" is in the details. This is where you will find I didn't miss an inch for you. Hundreds of pictures. close ups from top to bottom and I'll also tell you what we did so you don't have to. 1957 Volkswagen Beetle Sedan Deluxe VIN: 1408529 Odometer: 59,272 Engine: 1.2 Liter Flat Four Air Cooled 1200cc 36hp (1960) Transmission: 4-speed Manual Exterior: Horizon Blue Interior: Blue Leatherette Built: Feb - 1957 - Wolfsburg, ermany Over 223 high resolution pictures below. The car was about 400 miles away and I really didn't have time to go see it so I sent my oldest son to go look at the car, ssure me that it was in the condition the seller was stating and find our how to get it back to Las Vegas knowing it didn't run, rive or stop. My son made the trip, he assured me that it was exactly as I had hoped and made the deal. Found some junk tires to get it to roll onto a tow truck and sent it over to a transportation yard to get it shipped to Las Vegas. The afternoon it showed up here in Boulder City was super exciting. I instantly fell in love with the patina on the body. Nature's Automotive Art. A true Rembrandt for me at least. The evenness of the patina was extraordinary. Just enough original paint, ot too much or too little. Muddled top to bottom and the coloration of the original Horizon Blue with the orange rusty patina is just perfect. Then to see all of the original fenders, ood and trunk intact was a dream. The body metal on the car was so good, o few dents or dings, nothing that was so concerning that a panel would need replacement. The lowest portion of the front hood have a couple cracks that could be welded easily, he lower portions of the two rear fenders have minor prior work to them at the lowest level behind the bumper, ut all the metal is still there. The engine decklid, erfect, the doors, uarters and roof, tunning condition with NO through rust, ust patina. All the original windows and trim still there. Original Headlight covers, urn signals front and rear, riginal wheels, nd to my surprise, he interior still sported it's original Leatherette. Not in horrible condition might I add. The front seats had white vinyl covers over them so I didn't know that the originals wear still underneath but I could see the back seat was original. The dash was in great condition. The door panels there but shrinking from drying out...but there still. Junk was thrown all over inside the car so I had my guys clean out everything so we could see it all. The more I looked at this Patina Bug, he more I fell in love and so did everyone else who looked at tit. Once the car was all cleaned out, he only metal issue I could see was the battery tray which was shot. Wouldn't even hold a battery without putting something underneath it. So the first order of business was to get a new quarter pan replacement welded in to place. You'll see pictures of that below. Done right and sealed so it won't be an issue again. Then we knew it would run or stop. So next, we removed the fuel tank, leaned it and replaced all the rubber lines, he fuel petcock, he furl pump and filters and rebuilt the carburetor. New spark plugs, ires and a brand new distributor...battery installed and flipped the key over...and vroom, he was alive again. But now we could not drive her because there was no brakes. So a full rebuild on the brake system from front to back took place. Master cylinder to brake cylinders and everything in between, ew. Now she runs, rives and stops. I would go as far as saying the engine is a high-performance runner...compression is between 70 and 80 but it just feels like a weak 36hp motor. I build so many 300-700 horse power cars that this may just be an issue for me. But let it be said, he engine is not the high point of this car, he Patina and the body are. One thing for certain, know that finding a Patina Bug in this condition is near impossible and highly sought after by collectors. Being able to design this Beetle into the masterpiece you want is what so many buyers hope for. It's about as good as it can get for someone to take natures canvas and redo it to your unique tastes. Do I hope with all my heart that is doesn't get restored and repainted? That would be a shame, ut I cannot decide for you. Putting a coat of clear on the body and maybe putting a new carpet kit and headliner in would be about it cosmetically for me. Building a monster engine would be a must, ust because and slamming the suspension, es. The possibilities are unlimited and it can be driven while you do it all. Even the horn works. The brake lights work, he turn signals need a relay and a bulb holder for the left front. The fuel gauge is a rare option and doesn't work as far as I can tell. The Amp Meter does work and so do the speedo. The radio speaker is there but no radio. Just look over the pictures, ll 223 of them and you will see the art that I see. If you don't, hen move on, his Patina Bug is not for you. The interior front seat material was unraveled in the seams so we sent those out to have the ripped seams re-sown. The original seats are in fair condition and beautiful in my opinion. That's nearly 60 year old seats in there...much to appreciate for me at least. Best of all, here is a rare option with the reclining passenger seat. I have had several vintage Volkswagens over the years and never before have I had a recliner in one of them. Way cool. The seat belts are in rough shape but work. The engine runs but I wouldn't plan a trip with it by any means. Seriously, t runs...nuff said. Gorgeous, nder hear . . .below you will be able to see pictures before we refinished the pan. She is solid and rust free everywhere. The surface rust you see is just that. Surface rust not cancerous or through with holes. The body and floors are solid. You will see many more close up picture below to have a thorough inspection. Can you see the nose pan? Yes, t's that nice and solid too. The brake are new from beginning to end. . . Putting in a replacement pan correctly is extremely important. Drilled out weld points properly fitted and seam sealed after the welds are finished. Original glass, ags under the seats The heater boxes in great shape too. These tags were with the booklet A note from the owner. I am a “used car dealer” but before that, I’m an automobile enthusiast. I love original rare and high quality modified vintage cars and over the past decade I’ve been in business, ave come to appreciate an expanding selection of high-demand, igh value vehicles. I specialize in and am always on the lookout for cars and trucks that were cherished by their previous owners. I have an experienced eye for quality but I’ve discovered that my preferred buyer can instantly discern such a vehicle and I have therefore, uilt my business and reputation around finding these kinds of cars for this type of customer. Super low miles and/or gentle ownership are strict requirements but a car must do something for me on a personal level if there is any hope of convincing you, he bidder, hat this is an above average, i>exceptional vehicle. If nothing about the car excites me, t probably won’t do much for you either and I would soon be out of business. With just four employees and no sales people, realize how unusual a “dealership” like mine may at first glance appear. It has taken great care and effort to create such an organization and often, n unusually high investment in a particular car we are about to list. To sell the best it is critical to have a trusted expert in my corner and Chris, wner of A-Best Auto Repair in Henderson, evada has my back. He and his crew can fix anything; from a low budget beater to the absolute most expensive exotic you can name, o job is too big and no small detail unimportant. They do an exhaustive 130 point inspection on each and every vehicle and nothing escapes their methodical investigation. Experience has shown that everything I spend making a car truly “right” will come back to me not only with a higher selling price, but a happy customer that says good things about me. Moreover; it allows my writer to describe the car with ease and confidence, omething that simply is not possible unless he thinks it is true. If major issues are found or the cost of fixing the car the way it should be makes it too expensive to sell, y choice is an easy one. I simply absorb a few hundred dollars loss for my trouble and sell it at auction. After the vehicle is fully sorted it arrives at our facility where it encounters the suspicious eye of Tom, y writer that creates the presentations you see on eBay. He believes absolutely nothing I or anyone else tells him about the car as he combs over every inch, researches its history and documents originality and authenticity. Historical significance, arity, pecial features, ossible modifications and much more are used to accurately describe the vehicle with integrity and honesty. Most important for the potential buyer are the 100 to 150 high resolution pictures that I take myself. The pricey equipment I use would be right at home in the hands of the very best professional photographers and I’ve developed a logical format that walks you around the entire vehicle with close-up shots of every square inch. I provide detailed views of the interior, nder the hood and then put it on a lift to show the undercarriage and confirm that the beauty of the car you are considering is not merely skin deep. Even our detailers are enthusiastic about the cars they so meticulously clean. This reconditioning can sometimes take several days and I’ve converted a paint booth, specially prepared for the professional clay bar and polishing each car lovingly receives. Usually, ’ll also include a high definition video that shows the car doing its thing. If it’s a fast car, e film it going fast. If it’s a 4x4 you’ll see it crawling up a hill. In every case you will hear things like a rumbling exhaust, orking sound system and watch the temperature fall on a digital, aser thermometer pointed at an air conditioning vent. How many “dealers” will video a Lotus Esprit doing a buck-eighty? We do. No “dealer,” on-line or in the real world, akes it to this level. No other seller or organization provides you, he buyer, ith so much information. I do this because it is the only way I can convince a person; often a world away, nable to touch or feel their purchase, hat my vehicle is for real and what I say is the truth. All the above is necessary for me to stay in business while keeping integrity intact. I want every buyer to be happy and I need glowing feedback on eBay. To accomplish that I need satisfied customers that are as thrilled with their purchase as I was when I bought it. If you have any questions at all, lease call me on my cell at: 702-353-7500. If your inquiry is sincere and your offer serious, ou’ll find me the most accommodating business partner you’ve ever dealt with. If you call or e-mail asking for my reserve or “what is my bottom line” I will be looking for ways to politely end the conversation. Until you are ready to actually pull the trigger, will happily quote you the absolute highest nationally advertised suggested retail price I can find – a number we both know will not buy the car so, on’t waste your time, r mine. I am after all, “used car dealer.” Serious buyers know the maximum they can offer. I then must simply decide if I can sell for that number. If you hit the reserve, he decision is no longer mine. I must sell at that number.
