Description of 1965 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon type2 |
Major life changes bring this sale. I've been hanging on for a long time hoping to finish what I started but have decided to let someone take it from here. Was my daily driver after a full mechanical rebuild in 1997. Stored in garage since 2001. Back then I sold off the EZ Camper and windows to put it back to Panel Van because I wanted it to match the VIN. I have o.g. sheet metal from another panel van above the waistline to weld up the windows. Extensive records/receipts. Oil changes, valve adjustments/tune ups well documented. • Odometer reads 98.7K. • 17,600 miles on mechanical rebuild, • 12v conversion • 1600 single port w/doghouse cooler • full flowed the case • 96 pass mesa cooler • System 1 oil filter • VDO pressure & temp gauges • Electronic ignition/no points • Dizzy from 1968 bus (wanted to match vacuum advance to new gearing and bigger motor) • KCR freeway flyer tranny • Small nut reduction boxes (comfortable at 60) • Steering column/box • king pins, brakes (drums may need turning/sanding touch-up from storage... they sound/feel a little rough). • Dual cylinder master brake conversion • O.G. front sway bar from '67 • Camber compensator in back • New stock struts (extra set of like new GasAdjust included...i found them too stiff). The engine is in excellent running order. The only caveat is top end. ezcert on #1 spark plug plus #2 exhaust rocker retaining clip broke and I had to drive it 20 miles with that valve getting hit by the arm. I replaced the clip, readjusted the valve and it is fine. I did buy and will include a second set of single port heads should buyer want to do a top end job. It isn't necessary but I'm a fanatic and was planning on a show quality restoration. Wiper arms included (need blades/bug 12v motor), fuel gauge bounces (extra 12v one included in case the problem is not the sender). Plenty of spares, I kept the 1500 fan shroud/oil cooler, extra bumpers and tons of VW parts. will include all whatever I can to clear out the VW closet. Have a serious brake drum puller(hammer style), generator, ...you get the idea...lots of peripheral goodies go with this one. All parts came from this bus or Wolfgang, Rocky Mountain Motorworks, Wolfsburg West, etc...all reputable (at the time) dealers. This is a real solid bus. I've shown all the worst spots in the photos. Engine compartment/Fuel tank painted L87 matching the paint code/vin. Same w/ the windshield frames, though there is some tiny bubbling starting to show there. I wanted to drive it before all body work was done and figured it would be easier not to pull the motor when I got to that point. It drives fine but I put a statement of non-use at the DMV to avoid paying insurance, last inspection was 2006 and I recommend 5 new tires from years of being parked (back2 don't hold air over night), therefore it should be towed. Buyer responsible for delivery/transport. Should local sale meet reserve, I reserve right to pull auction. |
