Description of 1961 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Ragtop Restored matching Luggage |
What a charming Car! This 1961 Volkswagen was restored in the late 90s- Previous professional "Car Dealers" have described it as "Nut and Bolt", but it really was just body off. Floors are replaced and rust free. The car is solid and a TREMENDOUS driving car. When you get in one of these where the mechanicals have been restored you notice how sweet and charming they are! As you can see from the many photos, this is a great looking car. The paint is glossy and the color scheme is fantastic. What this car IS is a great 61 RAGTOP VW with factory Golde Sunroof, real metal wheel skirts, real original (As far as I can tell) German factory roof rack, aftermarket tool kit and fender trim and a ton of class and charm. What it is not is a $40,000 restoration with flawless paint. This car has patina and it looks right. The floors are new as were the heater channels, but some standing water has left very small perforations in the rear of the heater channels- I would just patch them with some stainless and spray them black- the rest of the car is super solid. The rubber trim is all original and quite worn. the chrome is original and still in reasonable shape. The sunroof works perfectly. The chassis 3996910. The motor is 8556947. The mechanicals were all rebuilt when the car was painted. I recently have replaced the master cylinder and done a full brake service. Drive this car ANYWHERE. It cruises at 60+ miles per hour, and chugs along in town beautifully. It starts instantly, stops beautifully, handles nicely and is just a joy to drive. The transmission snicks into all gears with very little notchiness and no grinding. It does not burn or leak any appreciable oil. It has nice velour seats that are in great shape- with a few seams just starting to split on the driver's seat only. It has a cool 3 piece luggage set that actually dates from 1961. You can see all the other cool accessories on the car- What a blast! I have TOO MANY cars and not enough storage, so I have to sell some of my most loved cars. Bummer. To help you get excited I am listing this car at NO RESERVE. High bid wins regardless. YES this car sold for $20,000 just recently at Flemings Garage- I'm sure you can search for that old listing and view the completely "Car Dealer BS' style video- Sorry for that guy, because this dealer grossly misrepresented the car. I hope I have not. I am not a "Bug" guy so I will answer your questions to the best of my ability, but I am not a marque expert. Put a really GOOD paint job on this car and replace all the rubber and brightwork and I think you have a $35,000 car... but as-is the car gets thumbs up and admiring glances and horn honks ALL DAY LONG. If you have no friends- buy this car... soon you will. The car is located in my garage 25 miles outside of Boston. If you'd like to come see it and are ready to purchase I'm happy to show it to you nights or weekends. This sells to the high bidder, but if y have what you feel is a strong offer for this NOW let me know and perhaps we can get a deal done. The car is fr sale locally so I reserve the right to cancel this auction at any time. |
