Description of 1972 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon |
You are bidding on a1972 Volkswagon Transporter CampmobileVin # 2322193687My name is Jim Higham and the owner has asked me to list this Campmobile on eBay on her behalf. It's a unique little vehicle which comes with a hammock that sit above the front seats as well as a cot in the overhead pop-up, that plus the fold-down bed make this a perfect unit for a family. Also it has privacy curtains all around and mosquito netting so that you can leave the back tailgate open if you choose. Also the official service manual will be included. I drove this campmobile in from the cottage approximately 40 miles north of Winnipeg on September 2 and it drove extremely well. I washed it and took the pictures on September 3 and this van is now in my building in Winnipeg. I can help the buyer with transportation and customs clearance if required. Below is the description of the van from the friend who did all the work. This van was purchased in Saskatoon several years ago.The only rust on this vehicle was a bit of blistering on the bottom half inch of the rear fenders and and the heat tube underneath which takes the heat to the interior from the engine. I replaced it and reinstalled it. This was a common problem and easy to fix. I then removed the motor and took it to Arizona with me and had it completely rebuilt and bored to 2 litres displacement by a pro. vw mechanic who has been building engines for us 15 old guys with VW Bajas for the last 15 years. I then replaced every mechanical component that was worn on the van including Ball Joints, brakes, shocks etc.so that it would pass our stringent safety requirements to be licensed in Manitoba. There should be a file with approximately $8,000 in parts bills and some labour re engine rebuild and ball joint installation . In addition I have put approximately 400 hours of time into this project.A previous owner had all the window rubber stripping and door weather stripping replaced and the interior done in white paneling. I believe he ran out of money and couldn't afford the bill to fill to minor body dings from many years and had it painted in beautiful turbine bronze. It is unfortunate that a few more hundred dollars would have made this van perfect. Underneath the bra on the front are some dents where it appears that someone pushed on the spare tire and they are obviously not visible with the bra on.The fresh air system works great and the heating system works fine but requires about 3 minutes to connect 2 pipes to the engine which are disconnected in summer to keep any heat out of the interior since it has no a/c system. It has 4 brand new BF Goodrich 70 series tires on original rims. I installed a head temperature gauge and oil temperature gauge and an MP3 player stereo. The doors and windows on this vehicle open and closed perfectly and all the locks work with an original key. This van has had about 300 miles put on it since it was finished and was just switched to synthetic oil. The transmission shifts perfectly and was filled with synthetic gear oil. I also installed 2 high back bucket seats in cloth for comfort and retractible shoulder harness from a later VW. The original dual carbraetors were replaced by a single carbraetor which was a common event because the duals were very hard for the average person and expensive to keep in tune. It now has a brand new Empi knock off of a Weber with electric choke that works perfectly. This vehicle even has the extra sleeping cot for across the front seats for a child. The floor has been redone in hardwood but the sink and fridge unit was removed to provide more open space but it still has the flip down table. The interior is in excellent shape.
