Description of 1979 Volkswagen Scirocco |
There is a lot to say. I hate to sell this car, it is well known in the local Orlando area. I have to move on to something cheaper as my priorities have changed. I wanted to stay period correct and keep it like someone would have in the 80s. Car was fully restored by renowned shop R Miller Auto in Palmyra PA. Over a $9500 in receipts from there. It is the factory color, Brazil Brown Metallic with Glasurit clear. It currently resides in Sanford, FL and is driven a few times a week at least, all year around. I have endless photos of this car, it gets out a lot. Interior is all original and in amazing shape. Engine is the stock 8v head, but the bottom end was built for a drake head back in the 90s that is no longer on the car and is owned by a local shop that I can put you in touch with. I have a huge binder full of its well cared for history. I am the third owner. The restoration was documented and photographed so I can show all of that as well. The floors and trunk remain untouched as they were rust free and we wanted to avoid damaging the rare and pristine interior. The adjustable JOM coils get the job done when set to soft, hard is too harsh for me. It was lowered but I raised them back up to accommodate the factory 13in wheels and tires. AC was tastefully deleted and a custom bracket made. All original OEM stickers were applied after the resto for a factory new look. It has the optional 5 speed transmission for 79 which is great for highway use. Its pretty much easier to list whats NOT new on this car, i have receipts for 95 percent of it. The headliner is original and is complete but does have stains from the factory adhesive. New glass seals for the side rear windows, hatch and windshield were installed. Mileage will go up as I drive it. I am sure i'll miss something but here is all that was replaced the last 10k miles -wheel bearings-axles-control arms, bushings-ball joints-tie rod ends-washer bottle delete-plugs and wires-cap, rotor, ignitor-oil pan gasket with baffles for hard turns (my favorite)-oil pan-window cranks, pins, various plastic pieces-valve adjustment-fuel tank and pump-thermostat-water pump PROS-All of the above-All exterior signals, controls and lights work.-You wont find a cleaner more loved and driven Rocco for sale-Won best classic at EuroJam Orlando last year and a top 30 at south FL premiere event, Eurotripper-All the hard and expensive work is done. Driveable, awesome Scirocco the way it is. CONS-Blower motor in the dash went about a year ago. Haven't been able to get another. -Dash is cracked but has a new plastic color matched cover over top. Then brown carpet over that.-Needs new oil pressure gauge, it pegs out. It was tested, definitely the gauge not the sending unit.-No AC (if you live in a hot climate) The AC was too far gone to salvage and it was a nice amount of weight removed from the car, and the bay cleaned up nicely.-Shows bolster wear on the drivers seat.-Although the restoration was long and thorough, it does have ONE spot where it shows some bubble like patterns. See photos. The rest is immaculate and looks amazing. No other paint defects to be found!- IMPORTANT: Any potential buyer should plan on an engine rebuild or swap eventually.I say this because even though I drive it regularly, it has had internal noise for a year or so now and most people I've shown it to think its a wristpin or bearing noise. Again it runs fine and I drive the hell out of it, these engines are very durable. Drained the oil and replaced with 20-50 zinc Kendall and its much quieter. No metal on the drain plug was found or in the screen I let it pass through.Just had the valves done trying to track down the noise and its better than ever. I just simply want to move on to something else thats cheaper to own, I can't keep putting money into it. A simple swap or cheap replacement 8v (bout $200 on average for another 8v) and you can enjoy it or make money off it. These are going for a lot of money nowadays, and I know of only a handful of people who have actually bared the pain of having them restored. That pain is all done for you and I'll be sad to see it go. Sold AS IS. Plenty more high res pics and videos available. $500 Non-Refundable Deposit duewith in 24 hours - payment in full required within 72 hours. Listed locally and nationally - so auction could end at any time without notice. Shipping at BUYERS expense and arrangement after payment has CLEARED. |
