Thisone of the better (more than fair priced) ones out there where it has been gone over, tuned, smogged in the HARDEST state in the Nation and STILL registers 3x fewer emissions than maximum and have a clean title AND IS RUST FREE!!!! She is a solid runner.
Open to decent, reasonable, and respectable offers, but really, please be fair. Telling a Syncro owner that these are a "dime a dozen" and there is a "good number for sale in California" is very hard to swallow that truth and that they are priced super low....I have gone and looked through a fair number of Vanagon Syncros and 2wdlocally in California and not a lot are as a strong runner, Mechanical problems, collision,many have smog issues, and definitely some rust issues. I have to openly leverage that the CA title gives it a little bit of a premium:1) know will have no rust concerns per say2) state of tune for a CA registered Excellently SMOGGED will be of NO concerns in other states or future issues 3) gives future leverage that if you do move to California, you won't have to worry about out of state vehicles not having the right requirements.
That being Said: Truely and Sincerely, Up for sale is a CLEAN TITLED CALIFORNIA registered Vanagon Syncro 4WD Tin-top in very good shape. Look, the vehicle is 30 years old. Paint has some wear but it is still the factory Savanna beige metallic colour. The van runs, drives, turns, and stops straight and is a very solid vehicle. The body overall great and very solid and not full of rust or major collision repairlike so many other Vanagons/ Syncros. The wheel arches and wells are free from rust and as well as the floor pans all the way through, front to rear.It is Extremely Solid Mechanically and Reliable. It is a real blast to drive, you sit high feel like the king of the road and look down on most SUVs. The 4wd platform makes this van sit high and tough. It has gone through and a lot of parts have been replaced with quality replacement stuff such as Bilsteins.She is just a real clean and beautiful machine that is unlike no other and is just a solid runner. You've got to see to appreciate it. The pics do not do it justice.

THE VAN HAS NO ROT OR CANCER growing under orabovewindshield and the under dash!!! That is a common area on all vans
NO accidents reported on Carfax, and front doors show no damage underneath carpet and no rot in door wells or under driver/ passenger area.
I feel this is a much better platform with the Tin top as you really have a big performance hit of over 600lbs compared that to having a Westy. Newer technologies are making the "kitchen" nicer and you can put in what you want. and cater to how you wantit to be, it is like a blank platform to make it into a Westy without buying into a Syncor Westy at a premium as so many go for (35K+). Or add as much or as little as you see fit for your adventure. Furthermore as it sits, as a tin topIt can be more capable for trails and become a real adventure wagon.
At it's current update: Gas and Go condition. Ready foran adventure, Syncro engages and runs off road like a BEAST
Super strong and quiet running engine. Sounds great. Idles smooth and quiet and acceleratessmooth as well. It starts from cold perfect with no hesitation or hiccups, and runs with no over heating issues.
Interior is clean and no significant stains or tears. Back seats fold down properly.

From what I know, I'm the third or fourth owner of this vehicle and it originated from New Mexico so there are NO winter/cancer rusts anywhere Mileage is 133,900 but I approx. 135,000** (read footnote down below) Because I figured I'm still driving it on a daily basis and enjoying it.

3/27/2017 JUST SMOGGED (even though it didn't need to but want to provide a few more info for perspective buyers) To show how well itruns.
Runs super smooth and quiet. Shifts like butter. Finds all gears with no problem and no grinding.It is a real pleasure to drive

This is a stock strong running 2.1L water-cooled and tuned extremely well.
NEW A/c compressor,with drier and 134r conversion.kit,but is not installed as of yet

Glitches:
the power mirrors don't work but have a replacement switch
I replaced the radio antenna and upon taking the dash and reinstalling, I must of knocked a wire as everything on cluster works except for the dash light
The car drives well and straight and I can cruise a documented 80mph on a flat freeway (I haven't seen here in CA Syncro owners going that fast btw), I have driven on several 70+ mile (one way) trips without problems. It does have the typical Vanagon idiosyncrasies as it's essentially a factory condition vehicle with no major modifications for the purist. I don't intend to win drag races btw, but if a stock motor Westy is pulled next to me, I'll probably get the better jump.
This can be a great platform for the person to do their Subaruengine swaps or other modification. But to be honest, this motor runs very very well.

** I got the CarFax on this vehicle and it showed that there was an odometer issue when it was in New Mexico that says it exceeded it mechanical limits. Upon looking at this closely I find it extremely odd that with such a Clean and Intact interior, extremely mechanically sound with NO indication that it is high mileage (mechanical limits of a 6 digit odometer means it has to go over 1,000,000 miles THEN another similar cycle), and having intact factory suspension is a bit odd. I honestly feel that the NM DMV had clerical errors.
