Description of 1974 Volkswagen Sand Rail |
Up for sale is my 1974 vw sandrail with an aeg turbo motor. i'll start with a backstory, then try to list everything i remember, then post pictures and a link to a build thread. 14,190.43$ invested (from receipts and purchase cost) i have 7490.43$ in receipts for parts purchased for 4000$ porsche rear brake custom kit 600 (no receipt) 1500 for the aeg motor 600 in welding/fab labor cost totalling $14,190.43 I bought this in pretty rough shape on July 30th of 2015. it was in pretty rough shape. it had a 1600cc aircooled motor with 3 rib bus tranny. only had rear drum brakes, did not stop for anything. had cable clutch which was a little rough to drive. seats were tore up fiberglass, little steering wheel, poor wiring etc. i brought it home, parked it in garage and started tearing it apart that weekend. i didnt even drive it until i had all the brakes and major issues fixed. after i had it to a pretty decent point, i drove it around for a while with the 1600cc motor. then i went to change the spark plugs and the previous owner had stripped one of the spark plug holes pretty bad and the head would of had to be replaced. at this point i decided i would swap the motor to something fuel injected with more power. my original plans were to do a vr6 swap, however, my friend had a 2.0 aeg 8v motor out of a 2000 jetta. so i decided to buy that from him and pieced together a turbo kit. i used megasquirt to manage the electronics and fuel injection. megasquirt was installed and dyno tuned by jeff linfert of myrtle beach. he did a great job and the rail is absolutely crazy, scary fast. it has been my long time project and i have dumped over 14k into this over the year and half i have had it. i am starting pharmacy school in august and need extra cash since i wont be able to work for 4 years. therefore, i am selling this for 10k obo. text 352-390-7766 with questions. $10,000 o.b.o no trades please located in ocala, FL 1974 vw sandrail -street legal -clean title -registered in FL -drives great on the road -4 wheel disk brakes motor -AEG 2.0 8v out of 2000 jetta, roughly 115,xxx miles -all gaskets replaced -new oil cooler -new alternator -new battery -ARP head studs -double head gasket -aluminum radiator with dual fan setup -kennedy flywheel -kennedy HD pressure plate -kennedy HD clutch (clutch and pressure plate rated to 350hp) -megasquirt ms2 v3.0 custom built and setup for this motor, has launch control -cxracing .50 trim turbo -front mount intercooler -blow off valve (dont remember brand name) -manual boost controller -walbro 255 fuel pump -relay/fuse box -10 gallon fuel tank with sight gauge (gauge on cluster doesnt work) -currently on 16psi transmission -3 rib bus tranny -4 speed with reverse (all shift perfectly) -HD clutch cross shaft -HD throw out bearing -CNC hydraulic clutch -empi short shifter -new shift linkage bushings brakes -custom made rear porsche disc brakes -front disc brake kit from apple tree auto -custom made brake lines -pedal kit from apple tree auto interior -vinyl seats from pacific customs (500$ for the pair) -aluminum steering wheel from appletree auto -blinker setup -intellitronix LED cluster with gps sending unit (gps sending unit doesnt work so great) -marine grade radio and speakers (cant really hear it over the motor) -marine grade switch panel -boost gauge -AEM wideband gauge (200$) -4 point harnesses -backup camera (always on, use as rearview mirror) -launch control button exterior -painted black -LED light bar -LED blinkers -LED tail lights/blinkers/brake lights/3rd brake light -LED head lights -chevy centerline wheels 15" diameter -chevy bolt pattern (obviously) -side mirrors suspension -new coilover suspension -new wheel bearings the "small print" (: -fuel gauge on cluster doesnt work (has sight gauge on tank) -gps speedometer sending unit is finicky and works when it wants (has another speedometer that i use) -rear tires are dry rotting -coolant overflow tank/bubble has crack in bottom and leaks a little (i have a new aluminum overflow tank, havent had desire to put it on) everything has less than 1000 miles one it. i loved building it, but i hardly ever take it out, it is garage kept and stays in there always. time to pass it on to someone who will enjoy it. on to the pictures |
